February is Heart Health Month.

💖 Let's talk about a crucial aspect of women's health that often flies under the radar – cholesterol levels during menopause. 🚺✨

For many amazing women who've sailed through life with normal cholesterol readings, things can take a turn during menopause. 🔄 The drop in estrogen levels is a game-changer, leading to a rise in total cholesterol, particularly the notorious "bad" LDL cholesterol and triglycerides. 📈🚫

Why does this matter? 🤔 Because, over time, elevated cholesterol can up the ante on heart risks. 💔 Cardiovascular disease is the leading cause of postmenopausal women's mortality, and it's time we shine a light on it. 🌟

This Summer I am doing something that I have always wanted to do. I am taking a 200 Hour, Yoga Teacher Training Course. I am looking forward to bringing knowledge from this to my practice. This time spent and a couple of family camping trips are changing my Summer hours slightly.

Do you know what's going on with your symptoms? I can help you figure it out. I say that I am the Naturopathic Dr. House. Have you seen that show? Dr. House is an amazing Diagnostician. I'm pretty much the same, without his drug problem, and I like people, unlike him.

How are you feeling today? Did you know that stress can affect you in interesting ways? It can even shut down activity of a pathway in the brain that controls the reproductive system. This can disrupt the connection between your brain and your ovaries and cause delayed or absent ovulation and irregular or missed periods.

Stress doesn’t have to be “all in your head”. A stress could be that your back hurts. Stress could be that you were out late at a fun party last night. Stress could be digestive upset, or food intolerances. Stress is anything that your body and mind have to adapt to. Stress affects us more when it is chronic and the stress response is ongoing.
Some small things to do in the day to help:
👉Sit by the window or outside in the morning when you have your coffee or tea.
👉Take a few long deep breaths before you go into that meeting.
👉Discover if you have any food intolerances.
👉If you are too busy, say “No” more often.
👉Explore some meditation apps. My fave is Insight Timer.

I love to grow.
This weekend, we got the tomatoes in the ground. Seeds are started indoors, and my click and grow garden is doing well at the clinic.
Some herbs for menopause that I can suggest are for the Ottawa climate:
🌿Sage
🌿Lemon Balm
🌿Red Clover
🌿St. Johns wort
