Incredibly clear and compassionate information for healing and transformation of ourselves, community, society.

Let’s work together to break the cycles of trauma and create a more compassionate society!
By supporting the Wisdom of Trauma we will help bring the movie to larger audiences and broaden the understanding of how trauma impacts our lives.

They hope to reach high schools, prisons, rehabs, universities, libraries, and households all over the world. You will also support the nonprofit organizations Science and Nonduality, Compassionate Prison Project, Downtown Streets Team, and Chrysalis Society.

“So much of what we call abnormality in this culture is actually normal responses to an abnormal culture. The abnormality does not reside in the pathology of individuals, but in the very culture that drives people into suffering and dysfunction.”

— Gabor Maté

The interconnected epidemics of anxiety, chronic illness and substance abuse are, according to Dr Gabor Maté, normal. But not in the way you might think.

One in five Americans are diagnosed with mental illness in any given year [1]. Su***de is the second most common cause of death in the US for youth aged 15-24 [2], and kills over 800,000 people a year globally [3] and 48,300 in the USA [4]. Drug overdose kills 81,000 in the USA annually [5]. The autoimmunity epidemic affects 24 million people in the USA [6]. What is going on?

Recent but not new, this article still inspires.
“What the heck does Impressionist art have to do with medical communication?”

It’s a question that Dr. Michael Flanagan often gets after telling people about “Impressionism and the Art of Communication,” the seminar he teaches to fourth-year medical students....

Medical schools in the U.S. are adding arts and humanities to the curriculum, helping students hone skills like critical thinking, observation, and empathy.

The University of Ottawa has several organized humanities activities for students to participate in such as Arts in Medicine interest group, the medical student choir and the Medicine in Humanities certificate program. In addition, students can choose to do their own humanities-centered projects as summer projects.

Arts in Medicine (AIM) is a student organized extension of the Medical Humanities program at the University of Ottawa. Our goal is to provide a creative outlet for medical students with the ultimate goal of decreasing stress, sharing with colleagues the knowledge of various forms of art and ameliorating the work-life balance. Events include a coffee house and multicultural night for performing arts, an art show for visual arts and literature and various workshops that would allow students to learn different forms of artistic expression! We strongly believe that anyone, regardless of his/her background, will be able to find his own artistic style with AIM!

The University of Ottawa Medical Student Art Show, under the auspices of the Aesculapian Society, is an initiative that celebrates artistic expression as a meaningful method of promoting personal wellness for medical students. This art show is a way to ensure that medical students in all four years can be exposed to the benefits of art-based learning through the creation of reflective art. This is an art collection created by amateur artists and as such, their works may have been inspired by those of other artists. No monetary profit was made with this booklet. View student artwork from the annual art show.
