Today, we recognize Moose Hide Campaign Day, a grassroots movement led by Indigenous communities to end violence against women and children. The Moose Hide pin symbolizes a personal commitment to take meaningful action, support healing, and hold one another accountable.

Moose Hide Campaign Day is more than an event. It is a ceremony.

Rooted in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, the day begins in a good way, grounded in respect, reflection, and intention. Across the country, people gather to witness sacred fire, prayer, and teachings that remind us of our shared responsibility to care for one another.

Ceremony invites us to slow down, to listen deeply, and to connect to something greater than ourselves. It creates space for truth, for healing, and for the commitments we carry forward in our daily lives.

As we come together on Moose Hide Campaign Day, we do so not only to raise awareness, but to stand in a collective commitment to end violence and build safer communities for women, children, and all those along the gender continuum.

When individuals express the idea that they want to stay in their own home until they die, family members must navigate the complexities of simultaneously respecting the person’s autonomy, ensuring safety, and managing ethical issues.

"I hear this wish about aging in place expressed a lot, but people haven’t always thought it through," says Gaye Moffett, founder, president and CEO of GEM Health Care Services. “It is possible to stay in your own home until the end,” she adds, “but people need to understand the impacts—financially, emotionally and physically.”
