Welcoming our new senior student, Camille, who will be following our midwives Christi & Nicole! She will be with OSM over the next year and looks forward to getting to know you all & helping to bring your little ones into the world 😊🩺👶🏼

A bit more about Camille:
“I grew up on a strawberry farm in Embrun, a village in Eastern Ontario. Before starting my midwifery studies at McMaster, I attended the University of Ottawa and graduated with a Bachelor of Health Sciences. Continuity of care, reproductive and sexual health rights and improved access to healthcare are all core tenets that first drew me to midwifery. During my midwifery placements, I have been privileged to learn in Ottawa, Thunder Bay and St. Johns (Newfoundland and Labrador).
My hobbies include camping, trying out new food recipes, watercolour and having my nose stuck in history books. I am fluent in both English and French. I look forward to being part of your care team and I am grateful to be a part of your wonderful journey.’’

You might not know this, but midwives do training regularly for things like emergency skills, neonatal resuscitation, and CPR. Here are Melissa and Liliane spending their off-call time practicing their emergency skills for both out of hospital and in hospital settings.

Here is meghli, a Lebanese dessert made after the birth of a new baby, shared by a client for her midwife at a routine home visit. One of the most special parts of midwifery care is sharing culture and community with clients when they welcome us into their homes. This photo and story is shared with permission from our client, we encourage you to share any special foods or customs you have after the birth of a baby.

On the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and Orange Shirt Day, we remember the Indigenous lives and communities impacted by ongoing colonization and recommit ourselves and our practice to decolonization. As midwives practicing on Turtle Island, it is our job to read and respond to the 94 calls to action and to provide culturally safe care as we welcome new life and support community.

We lucked out by having so many of our midwives in one park at the same time! A few others were there too, but missed the photo. It was such a joy to see past and current clients at our reunion picnic! We'll definitely make this a yearly event!

Past and current OSM families! Please join us on September 21, 2024 between 11am-2pm at Vincent Massey Park (S2) for an opportunity to gather together with your midwives! We will be hosting a raffle to raise money for Aunties on the Road, a remarkable Indigenous grassroots organization that provides free reproductive and sexual health counseling to First Nations, Inuit, and Métis youth aged 12-30. Their dedication to empowering these young individuals is inspiring, and we are proud to support their mission. Remember to bring some cash for the chance to win an amazing prize and celebrate Aunties on the Road! This will be a potluck lunch, so feel free to bring a dish to share and plates or cutlery of your own to reduce waste. There will be refreshments provided, so there is no obligation to bring anything. We can't wait to see you and your OSM babies and kids!

We are thrilled to welcome back Beth, our former senior student, as a fully minted midwife! We're thrilled to have you! Check out her impressive bio! Maternal health has always been my passion, and I am grateful to be serving the families of Ottawa in a way that aligns with my dedication to comprehensive, trauma-informed care.......
I began my journey with a Bachelor's degree in Outdoor Education and an Emergency Medical Responder license in Alberta. Over the next decade, I acquired numerous birth-related certifications while working as a doula, birth photographer, and clinic manager. During this period, my husband and I welcomed our children—first, our micro-preemie son and later, our daughter at term. These personal experiences reinforced my belief in the importance of informed choice and continuity of care for families. Midwifery brought us back to my birth-province of Ontario and we are thrilled to be in Ottawa.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending quality time with my family, biking, skiing, sewing, and savoring sunny days with a coffee. I am thrilled to join the dedicated team at Ottawa South Midwives and look forward to being a part of your care.
