Early Onset Scoliosis is the most severe condition which can lead to pulmonary and cardiac problems. This day course in Brazil, Belo Horizontale not just educated over 50 physiotherapists and orthotists on best care but was enriched with patient demonstrations. Young children with very advanced curves hoping to postpone the surgery to improve future quality of life. Thank you for hosting and organizing such an important course to improve scoliosis patient care in many parts of Brazil. Participants travelled many hours to learn and observe treatments to improve lung function and prevention of scoliosis curve progression. Dr. Jean Claude de Mauroy advised on bracing and Andrea Lebel PT demonstrated treatments not just for scoliosis but pulmonary functions as well.

“It’s possible to perform this surgery without the need for technology, but now we have technology to help us perform a safer procedure,” summarized Dr. Shen.
“You can drive a car and get to point B without GPS, but now we all have a camera in the car and there are better ways to get from point A to point B.”
“The more severe the scoliosis, the greater the difficulty and the greater the risk,” said Dr. Wang. “But if we can reduce the risk to 0.1 per cent, instead of 2 or 5 per cent, why wouldn’t we do it?”
Even the most experienced surgeon may have to forgo installing two or three screws during a freehand procedure, which could affect the quality of the correction, he added.
“The last case we did (with the new technique), we missed zero screws, everything was successful,” he rejoiced.
