This Black History Month, we recognize the groundbreaking contributions of Black pioneers in eye care and vision science. From inventing life-changing technology to advocating for diversity in optometry, these leaders have shaped the way we see the world—literally.

🔬 Dr. Patricia Bath revolutionized cataract surgery with the Laserphaco Probe.

👁️ Dr. Terrence Ingraham championed diversity in optometry.

🌎 Dr. Melvin D. Shipp merged public health with vision care.

📢 Dr. C. Clayton Powell advocated for increased Black representation in optometry.
