The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health

The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health Wabano is a wholistic health and cultural centre supporting Ottawa's Indigenous community.

The Wabano Centre for Aboriginal Health is an award-winning organization that serves over 18,000 Indigenous people annually. In addition to the medical services offered through our clinic, we offer countless culturally-based social programs designed to help Indigenous individuals and families lead healthy lives, including:

- Mental health services
- After-school programs
- Cultural programming
-

Seniors' circles
- Parenting groups
- Nutrition & fitness activities
- Diabetes care

More than a health centre, Wabano is a proud Indigenous organization dedicated to helping Indigenous people live the good life. We envision a world in which all First Nations, Inuit and Métis people have achieved full and equitable access to the conditions of health including: pride in ancestry, cultural reclamation, peace, shelter, education, food, income, a stable environment, resources, and social justice. We envision a world where the gifts and wisdom of First Nations, Inuit and Métis cultures are recognized as valuable, distinctive and beautiful.

Learn from the stars and become part of our community constellation!

We’re hosting a Community Day with Wilfred Buck on Saturday, May 30 and Sunday, May 31 from 1:30-4PM—a fun, welcoming afternoon for the whole family.

Step inside his immersive planetarium and hear traditional star stories, teachings and cultural understandings of the night sky passed down through generations. Through an Indigenous lens, you will explore the deep connections between the stars, ceremony, seasonal cycles, navigation and identity.

We will also get creative and craft magnets to contribute to a community constellation that will be proudly displayed at the upcoming Wabano Gala.

Join us for a very special evening with renowned Cree Elder, educator and star knowledge keeper Wilfred Buck!

Known as the ‘Star Guy,’ Wilfred Buck is an Ininiw astronomer and educator from the Opaskwayak Cree Nation whose story is one of resilience, healing and reclamation. As featured in the National Film Board documentary Wilfred Buck, his journey from displacement and loss to becoming one of the most respected voices in Indigenous astronomy in the world is as powerful as the teachings he carries.

On Friday, May 29 from 6:30-8:30PM, he is joining us at Wabano to share stories about the cultural and spiritual significance of the constellations, Indigenous understandings of the cosmos, and the transformative role that ceremony and star knowledge have played in his life.

Come with your questions and an open mind. Registration is $50 and includes appetizers and refreshments. Sign up today at https://loom.ly/BA86RkU
