April is Alcohol Awareness Month.

In Ontario, alcohol is just part of everyday life. It’s easy to access, easy to normalize. In fact, about 7 out of 10 people in Ontario drink each year. But for a lot of people, it slowly becomes more than just “a drink.” About 1 in 5 people drink at levels considered heavy or risky.

For many of the men at Harvest House, that’s where things changed.

What started small became something that affected their decisions, their relationships, and their sense of direction. Some lost connection with family. Some got stuck in cycles they couldn’t break on their own.

And honestly... that’s why this matters.

Because behind those numbers are real people. People who are trying to rebuild, one day at a time. People who just needed support, structure, and someone to believe change was possible.

We see that every day here.

Education. Perseverance. Transformation.

Through our Harvest House Continuing Education Program, residents have the opportunity to earn their high school equivalency through the Canadian Adult Education Credential (CAEC), a powerful step toward long-term recovery, stability, and purpose. At Harvest House, education is more than a milestone, it’s a pathway to a new life.

2025 CAEC Results:
✔️ 15 residents wrote exams
✔️ 13 successfully passed
✔️ 87% overall success rate

But there’s more to the story…
Four residents faced setbacks and had to rewrite at least one exam, and 3 of them came back to pass. That’s a 75% success rate for those who refused to give up. Because at Harvest House, we know that perseverance matters just as much as achievement.

👏 We’re incredibly proud of every resident who took this step forward in 2025.

“He is not here; He has risen!” — Luke 24:6

Today we celebrate the victory of Jesus Christ over sin and death. The resurrection is more than a moment in history, it’s the promise of new life for all who believe.

At Harvest House, that promise is lived out every day. Through Christ, men are finding freedom, purpose, and a fresh start. Because He lives, hope is alive. Because He lives, change is possible.

Happy Easter from all of us at Harvest House ✝️

“there they crucified Him,” — Luke 23:33

Today, we pause and remember the sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

On the cross, He carried our sin, our brokenness, and our burdens, making a way for healing, forgiveness, and new life.

And in the midst of it all, Jesus chose forgiveness:
“Father, forgive them, for they know not what they do.” — Luke 23:34

At Harvest House, we see the power of that sacrifice every day. Lives once marked by struggle are being restored through Christ’s love.

Because of the cross, no story is beyond redemption.

Today, we remember. Today, we give thanks.

At Harvest House, every life being rebuilt is a shared journey. Men come to us seeking hope, healing, and a fresh start, and through faith, community, and support, transformation happens.

But they don’t walk this path alone. Your generosity helps provide safe housing, meals, education, and life-changing programs that restore dignity and purpose.

When you give, you’re not just donating, you’re lifting someone up when they need it most.

Join us in carrying the burden and sharing the hope.

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” — Philippians 4:13

For Harvest House resident James, this verse is more than just words, it’s something he holds onto in the hard moments.

There are still days where he feels like giving up, where the weight of it all feels like too much. But in those moments, he reminds himself of this truth: he’s not doing it alone. God has already shown him that change is possible, and that his strength is there, even when he doesn’t feel it.

Because of that, James keeps going, continuing to push forward toward his goal of becoming a counselor and helping others.

His story is one shared by many residents at Harvest House. Recovery isn’t easy, and there are days that test every part of the journey, but through faith, perseverance, and support, they continue to choose growth.

Each day is a step forward, and with Christ as their strength, lasting change is possible.

Residents at Harvest House take classes focused on life skills, 12-step recovery, anger management, and group counseling. These classes aren’t just about information, they’re about transformation. They give the guys the tools to manage emotions, take accountability, rebuild relationships, and prepare for life beyond the program.

Time in the classroom is where growth happens. It’s where mindsets begin to shift, habits are challenged, and a foundation for lasting recovery is built.

Every day they choose to show up, learn, and change—and that’s what makes the difference.

Not every resident’s story of how they came to Harvest House is the same, but the one thing they all have in common is the choice they made to change.

Recovery isn’t a single moment - it’s a decision made again and again each day. At Harvest House, residents are supported through structure, community, and accountability, giving them the opportunity to rebuild their lives and move forward with hope.
