💛 How Your Giving Creates Real Change at Harvest House

About 10% of adults in Ontario struggle with problematic substance use, and among people experiencing homelessness, 20–40% live with a substance use disorder. These challenges are closely connected to housing instability and lack of consistent support.

At Harvest House, recovery is more than quitting a substance - it’s learning to live with stability, purpose, and healthy routines through a structured, faith-based residential program focused on accountability, life skills, and community.

Your support helps provide safe housing, daily meals, mentoring, and confidence-building programs - creating the foundation for lasting transformation.

January has increasingly become known as Dry January - a time when people choose to pause their alcohol use, reflect on habits, and consider how drinking fits into their lives.

For the men at Harvest House, abstaining from alcohol isn’t a temporary challenge. Recovery is a lifelong commitment, and every day requires intentional choices, accountability, and support. There is no “return to normal” after January - only the ongoing work of healing, growth, and rebuilding.

Dry January can be a helpful starting point for reflection, but lasting recovery requires structure, community, and compassion. At Harvest House, we walk alongside men every day as they pursue sobriety and long-term change.

🕯️ National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day

Today, we honour the lives lost while experiencing homelessness - lives defined not by lack of worth, but by lack of safety, stability, and support.

Homelessness and addiction are closely linked. In Canada, 20–40% of people who are homeless or vulnerably housed live with substance use disorders, often without access to the treatment or housing needed to begin healing. Without safe housing, recovery becomes far more difficult.

At Harvest House, we see the reality behind these numbers and we also see hope. Housing, structure, accountability, and community save lives.

Today, we remember.
Tomorrow, we continue the work.

Addiction isn’t a choice - it’s a complex condition that affects the mind, body, and spirit. At Harvest House, we see how deeply it can impact men and their families, but we also see something powerful: hope.

🔍 What Addiction Is:
It’s a chronic condition that changes how the brain works, making decision-making and emotional regulation harder. Many men aren’t just battling substances - they’re facing trauma, isolation, and shame.

💛 Why Support Matters:
Recovery requires structure, accountability, community, and compassion. At Harvest House, men find a safe place to rebuild their lives.

🌱 Our Approach:
- Structured residential recovery
- Faith-based mentorship
- Life skills + employment training
- A strong, supportive community

✨ There is a way forward.
Every day, we witness men heal, grow, and rediscover their purpose.

This week, Harvest House residents came together to decorate the Christmas tree — a simple moment that carried a lot of meaning. As ornaments were placed and lights were strung, the room filled with conversation, laughter, and a shared sense of belonging.

For the men in our program, moments like these matter. They create space for connection, tradition, and the reminder that the Christmas season is about hope, community, and new beginnings.

We’re grateful for these everyday moments that help make Harvest House feel like home.

The Christmas tree was generously donated by Bill and Nancy Stewart, and we are so thankful for their kindness 💛
