I love working in the trauma realm because the limitations and constrictions that trauma brings are NOT permanent. They don’t have to dominate the rest of our lives. They are changeable through practice. It’s not easy, and it likely won’t be 100% “solved”. But, it is absolutely possible for anyone to make space for ways of thinking, feeling, and acting that aren’t dominated by fear, rigidity, and hopelessness. And that means that life can be worth living, even in it’s imperfection.
A growing body of evidence suggests that trauma-sensitive or trauma-informed yoga may have a unique ability to address PTSD “where other types of trauma treatment are falling short” (Nicotera & Connolly, 2020, p. 21). In fact, “yoga and mindfulness may also support the integration of traumatic memory” (Nicotera & Connolly, 2020, p. 22).
