💙 Many of us find it hard enough to motivate ourselves to exercise at the best of times. But when you feel depressed, anxious, stressed or have another mental health problem, it can seem even more difficult.

😨 You know exercise will make you feel better, but depression may have robbed you of the energy and motivation you need to work out, or your social anxiety means you can’t bear the thought of being seen at an exercise class or running through the park.

Here are some tips to overcome these obstacles:

💚 Start small. Set achievable goals and build up from there.

💛 Schedule workouts when your energy is highest. Even a short 15 minute walk can help clear your mind, improve your mood, and boost your energy level. As you move you start to feel better.

💜 Focus on activities you enjoy. Any activity that gets you moving counts. Activities such as gardening or tackling a home improvement project can be a great way to start moving more when you have a mood disorder

💚 Be comfortable. Wear clothing that is comfortable and choose a setting that you find calming or energizing.

💛 Reward yourself with a hot bubble bath after a workout, a delicious smoothie, or with an extra episode of your favorite TV show .

💜 Make exercise a social activity. When you’re suffering from a mood disorder, companionship can be just as important as the exercises. You will feel better than if you were exercising alone.

😃 It boosts endorphins, your “feel good” neurochemicals.

⛹ Movement keeps your body and immune system healthy and helps you to look and feel younger.

💪 You will stay strong and flexible so that your muscles don’t stiffen with age.

🪑A sedentary lifestyle stops the free flow of energy, but the more you move and stretch your body, the younger and more vibrant you will feel.

🔍 Find an exercise routine that appeals to you.

❗If you are just starting out, doing simple yoga stretches once daily is a gentle beginning. Go slow. Experiment with different forms of movement to determine what feels good ❗
