History of the clinic: Dr. Gaulin Sr. first started a small practice in the market. His son Dr. Jacques Gaulin took over from his father in 1954 approximately. Dr Gaulin Jr., an incredible clinician did not shy away from any complex case. An ever perfectionist and his incredible attention to details earned him a enviable reputation of solving problems, even when others had failed! Approaching retirement age, Dr. Gaulin Jr. called the University of Waterloo every spring inquiring about new graduates that could take over his complex clinic. Finally in 1989 a name came up: Josée Martineau. He called the 4th year resident and asked for a meeting. In Ottawa, Josée explained that she came from a small town and that practicing in the market of Ottawa was not first on her list. She reluctantly agreed to try a few days a week at his location for a few months.Well the rest is history! Dr. Martineau absolutely loved practicing with Jacques. The complexity of the cases, and the meticulously maintained charts won her over. The practice was officially transferred to Dr. Martineau in 1990. Our clinic: I See Optometry Clinic is a full-service bilingual eyecare optometric practice. We have extended hours (Thursday evenings and Saturdays) to serve our patients better. We perform thorough complete eye exams which not only check your vision (how well you see), but which also check the health of your entire eye. A thorough and comprehensive eye exam is an important part of taking care of your overall health. An eye exam can sometimes uncover evidence of diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and higher cholesterol. All of our optometrists are trained to diagnose and detect eye problems and diseases which may include conditions such as cataracts, glaucoma, and retinal problems. Our office is equipped with the absolute, leading edge, state of the art diagnostic equipment. On site we have a: Zeiss 3-D high definition optical coherence tomography, a Zeiss Humphrey field analyzer, a Canon retinal camera, a i-care tonometer, to mention only a few. We work closely with other surgical and medical professionals. We follow lupus patients on Plaquenil with rheumatologists to monitor for macular toxicity. We monitor diabetic retinopathy and diabetic changes with family practitioner (or nurse practitioners) and endocrinologists. We assess patients post concussion and post stroke.
