AMID GLOBAL WARS,
LOOK TO HIS DAWNING
STAR OF HOPE
A personal reflection on the day before Halloween, Oct 30th 2024.
‘’Tis Halloween. the lamp is lit, beside the fire we children sit, telling ghost tales, bit by bit, til someone says, Hush!.” Or, ’Twas a cold, dark and stormy night,’ are how many horror stories typically begin, describing a scary tale about to be told.
Is life then a scary tale? From where then, do these ominous and sinister stories originate, if not from that bleakest of darkest, bewitching perspective of the occult world around us. In a dark culture of death and Halloween, we face with fear and foreboding, that precariously threatening existential reality of human survival on a spiritually corrupt planet, bent on waring mayhem and suicidal, self-destruction. It is the demonic, fallen kingdom of darkness, that has created our dark and macabre world.
How intriguing are these late autumn evenings after our colourful harvest days of thanksgiving and plenty. It all then quickly disappears and turns black and bleak, darker and colder, as Halloween and winter set in. Life becomes harsher, more sever, requiring much more effort on our part to ensure and secure our safe keeping.
My dear and courageous, pioneer-spirited niece, Alanna, is now living off-grid in British Columbia and would attest to the threatening reality of a quickly approaching winter world outside. She has harnessed and rallied together her friends and resources to sustain and help her tp soon battle the onslaught of a menacing cold and dark winter of survival.
Under winter’s tyranny, we find ourselves in more life-threatening circymstances and must adapt. We must prepare for the harsher conditions of what lies ahead. We must therefore seek a warm place of both friendship and security, when life becomes harsh. We all then need a safe haven, a secure abode, that becomes essential to our survival. When harsh elemental realities set in, both physical and spiritual, we must prepare with secure love and hope.
Metaphorically, the late autumn and winter come with with colder, darker and more stormy elements. They are lie our perpetual universal condition of survival mode on planet earth. Safety, warmth and compassion become our foremost necessities and constant priorities, amid life-threatening harsh realities. The comfort of a home, a safe and warm, compassionate abode of human support and affection, then becomes our all important essentials for survival.
So too, like my Alanna, during this late fall, as Halloween leaves are ripped from trees, swept and blown away by cold blasts of galling winds, many of us creatures, big and small, must also bunker-down and busy ourselves, building burrows of refuge and storehouses of food, to survive the seasonal nemesis.
By and large, the whole of our world is in a perpetual season of winter’s nemesis, that threatens death. Are we not also frequently battling the constant cold, dark and stormy night of human fear, hatred and violence?
In every age and at all times on our planet we battle and rage against the night of death. It seems we are often threatened by some dark and nightmarish tale of woe and war. Are not the various elements of life, always conspiring against us on some level? Are we not always in some state of survival mode? A survival mode that is not only material, but immaterial and spiritual as well. Is not life almost always foreboding? Is not the chronic human condition and climate of earthly existence, of merciless wars always plaguing us us in a foreboding fight for life? War is hell on earth and is relentless in every age, as now.
Are not our human circumstances, two-fold? One we call our weather climate and the other, the climate of our spiritual nemesis of war? Do we not suffer both these two harsh realities at any given time. In this present moment in our late autumn Halloween world of today, we are again threatened by the bleak winter of deadly war.
Today again, wars increasingly looms large and foreboding on our global horizon, civil and g;pbal war is again becoming our changing landscape and transition from fall the winter. In war and coming winter of promised pain, grief, sorrow and death, do we not need to prepare ourselves”? How do we prepare for the onslaught of death and destruction that war brings? We must seek a safe shelter from that cold, dark and stormy reality. Yes, we need to find the spiritual shelter and refuge that only faith provides, in that harshest of realities, warfare. And our God has provided such a safe haven for us, His children of light and hope,
Then suddenly, there came a flash of light in the night. Now so many centuries ago, suddenly, we are told, there came a light, one from the celestial heavens. A wondrous, unknown and brilliant new light that shone in the night sky for all to see. It was a heavenly omen of hope and great things to come. It was humanity’s first beacon of hope, as the Advent star of Jesus.
It was His Advent star, heralding hope for all mankind - a divine illuminary of hope for all to see. Amid the suffering warfare of our cold, dark and gloomy winter world of Halloween today, we again must look-up and see the unexpected, brilliant star, dawning before us in the heavens. It is a sign of divine progeny and promise of His second coming, our promised hope and rescue from God.
Something new was being born then and again now, in our dark and macabre world. By this divine progeny, a new dawn is reborn in our cold and darkened lives. A great fiery-dart races across the celestial sky and shines surprisingly bright then and now, speeding through the vast spaces of our cold and dark sky. It is a sure dawn of hope, in this dark and wintery, occult world of human suffering. It is a miraculous everlasting sign of new beginnings in God’s own kingdom universe.
Suddenly, ‘A people living in darkness, saw a great light’, as the prophet Isaiah described it for us. Even now, so many centuries later, it still illuminates our planet with it’s spiritual light of love as God’s promised of hope and peace for mankind.
So look up friends, look at His Advent star still shinimg brightly over-head, over our troubled world at war. His star remains “The Light of The World.” in our overcast and downcast, discouraged hearts.
As civil and global wars loom, lingering on our horizon, look-up, look higher than the horizon and see above us, the Advent star of Jesus, still brightly shining in our dark night of the soul. It is not gone from sight and with discerning eyes of His Divine Spirit, we can see He is not gone from us, but remains as our everlasting hope of peace. Jesus has pvercome for us, this waring world of demonic, occult powers of darkness. Our foreboding, wintery Halloween has already been defeated, so stand people and be light in this present darkness.
Our lives can indeed become cold, dark and scary, without Our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Christ’s light of fiery-love still burns bright cross our skies and in our poor hearts, amid the realty of war. So look up my friends and trust in His everlasting promise of hope, peace and love on His planet earth and His universe. Believe and trust that He is always there for each of us. For’as certain as the dawn, is our Christ’s return in glory.
“So let us know and become personally acquainted with Him; let us press on to know and understand fully the [greatness of the] LORD [to honor, heed, and deeply cherish Him]. His appearing is prepared and is as certain as the dawn, And He will come to us [in salvation] like the [heavy] rain, like the spring rain watering the earth.” - Hosea 6:3
