You 👏🏻don’t 👏🏻need 👏🏻more 👏🏻willpower!

Your emotional eating isn’t really about the food. It’s about anxiety, overwhelm, depression, loneliness. Food becomes relief, a way to regulate your nervous system that doesn’t feel safe.

In our sessions together we don’t focus on controlling food, we focus on what your eating patterns are trying to help you with.

Send me a DM or check out my website, and let’s work together!

Emotional eating isn’t always a speedy eating experience, sometimes it can come in the form of restriction. This gives a sense of control when anxiety is high.

This can look like telling yourself you’re too busy to eat, believing you’re not worthy of nourishment, not having motivation to cook and eat, or feeling a physical surge of anxiety that makes your stomach queasy.

If you feel like you need some support around your behaviour with food, reach out and I’d be happy to see how best I can support you.

You don’t have to wait for the weekend to practice self-care! Weaving feel-good activities or things you enjoy into your day-to-day can make you feel lighter and more resilient.

So: drink the coffee you like best, wear clothing that makes you feel comfortable, make time to do a hobby (even just 10 minutes)!

So many of my clients believe that taking care of their own needs is selfish. One common belief is that “if I take care of myself, someone else will suffer.” But the truth is, you end up being the one suffering. You can’t juggle everything when you have no energy, resilience, or joy in the tank.

Start small: ask yourself what you might need this week, then plan to give it to yourself. It is ok to ask for help, a time out, or slow down.

An underrated strategy for managing emotional eating? Sleep.

Everyone is different in their needs, but getting a good night’s sleep plays a role in maintaining a balance in our body and mind—and feel less tempted by caffeine, sugar, and snacking for energy.

You don’t have to aim for perfection! There will always be variables outside your control, but prioritizing any kind of rest can help you feel more resilient… which means you’ll reach less often for food.

Building on this week’s Mental Health Week theme of “Come together” I wanted to share that I often find my own emotional eating patterns pop up when I feel lonely.

Knowing this root cause means that I can find a solution: sometimes that’s being with others at a workout class or scheduling a dinner with a friend. Sometimes it's as simple as a quick text!

There is no right or wrong answer, it is about checking in with myself and being honest about what I need. I hope that inspires you to turn inwards and identify a few connection strategies you can depend on!

Today kicks off Mental Health Week and the theme is “Come together!”

This is a great reminder that food is something that brings us together—casseroles for a friend in need, a coffee break at work, or cake for celebrations!

Food is comfort, it’s emotional, and that’s ok.

There is no shame in quitting. Too often we stay at a job, in a relationship, or doing the same thing we dread just because we’ve invested time and energy. You might even justify it by saying you’ve just always done it, so might as well keep going!

But letting go of things that no longer serve you opens up space for things that align better with you and the life you’re craving (yes, this word choice is intentional!).

I have been doing a deep research dive into how supporting (aka calming) your nervous system can help with emotional eating. But what I’ve noticed is that a lot of what I am reading talks about the benefits of regulation, but not the specifics of how to do it. So, I decided to write it myself! Check it out and let me know if you find it helpful:

Learn how to regulate your nervous system to reduce emotional eating. Discover simple tools to calm fight-or-flight and activate rest-and-digest so you feel more grounded, in control, and supported through stress and binge urges.
