If you are a mental health clinician working with refugees, the landscape has changed following the new immigration legislation. They are reshaping how distress presents, how safety is experienced, and how trust is negotiated in the therapy room.

If you are navigating complex refugee cases in the current climate and need a space to think critically, reflect deeply, and stay ethically grounded, reach out for consultation.

I provide monthly consultations for mental health clinicians working with refugees.

Immigration evaluations are one of the most impactful and underserved areas of mental health practice in Canada. With demand increasing significantly following recent changes to immigration legislation, more lawyers and applicants are seeking qualified clinicians to conduct credible, trauma-informed clinical evaluations for PRRA and Humanitarian and Compassionate applications. This is a specialized training, and it is lacking in Canada.

For some people, PRRA is now the only remaining formal protection pathway. A clinical evaluation can be an important part of that file. It documents trauma, mental health, fear of return, and vulnerability in a structured, professional way that may support legal documentation.

I am a Registered Psychotherapist with fifteen years of experience working with refugee and newcomer populations.
I conduct PRRA-related Immigration Evaluations in multiple languages.

If you or your client may be affected by Bill C-12, contact me for support and to book a free consultation.

If isolation feels safer than connection, it may be protecting you, but it is also increasing psychological risk, and you don’t have to manage that alone.

🌍 Join me on October 9th at the Royal Ottawa Hospital for a rare and essential conversation:
Working with People Who Survived War and Torture.

This is a topic we often overlook in our practices—yet it is deeply needed. Together, we will explore the lived realities of war trauma, exile, and healing.

Q***r refugee relationships are rarely discussed in therapy or any q***r spaces.

Here are some important points to remember:
Many LGBTQ+ refugees enter relationships while still:

1- Awaiting refugee status.
2- Maybe dependent on partners for housing, financial stability, or community protection.
3- Navigating isolation, rejection and resettlement.

These create asymmetrical power dynamics, which may blur lines between support, coercion, and consent.

A relationship with an LGBTQ refugee isn’t just about love. It’s about unlearning. It’s about building safety where there used to be fear.

Next week, a colleague and I will present a session at the Ottawa Immigration Law Conference on “Breaking Bad News to Clients: Legal Strategies and Coping with the Stress.” I’ll be focusing on self-care strategies for lawyers.

We’ve all experienced that moment when the law doesn’t go our clients’ way, and delivering the news can feel like carrying someone else’s heartbreak.

If you are attending, let's connect afterward, and please stop by and say hello!
