An "Orthopaedics Plus" Christmas Carol

Old Scrooge sat hunched, his joints in despair,

His knee was aching, and had pain everywhere.

He muttered and groaned, “Bah, humbug!” in strife,

Unaware that relief could surely change his life.

That night, three spirits all came to call,

Not of Christmas alone, but Orthopaedics for all.

The first was the Ghost of Pain Long Past,

Who showed him yearly posture, more crooked than the last.

“You’ve ignored your back, your feet, and your knees,

And now your body does nothing but seize!”

Scrooge shivered, ashamed, then pleaded, “ENOUGH!”

The spirit vanished but first whispered “stop trying to act tough.”

Next came the Ghost of Christmas Today,

Who showed him a shop not so far away.

At Orthopaedics Plus, the lights were aglow,

Helping patients heal all the way, from head to toe.

“Custom orthotics,” the spirit proclaimed,

“For feet that ache, your comfort reclaimed!

Compression stockings, knee braces galore,

Cold therapy, boot walkers, and a whole lot more!”

Scrooge marveled at their kindness, the care, the trust,

As patients found comfort in Orthopaedics Plus.

He whispered, “Perhaps there’s hope yet for me,

If they can help others, maybe they could help with my knee.”

Then came the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Be,

Who showed a grim future, of what Scrooge might see.

Still limping and stiff, his world cold and gray,

If he never sought help, he'd surely waste away.

He woke with a gasp, his heart let out a yelp,

Off to Orthopaedics Plus he went for some help.

The staff fit his brace and taught him with care,

Soon, Scrooge would feel like he was walking on air!

Now he tells others, with joy and delight,

About the place that restored his steps overnight.

So to all the physicians whose trust means so much,

We thank you sincerely for staying in touch.

Mother nature tried to blow us down but we're back on our feet and feeling good!

This is phenomenal! 👏

An innovative surgery option has allowed Mohamed to walk again for the first time in a decade, thanks to Dr. Matz, a Horizon orthopedic surgeon in Saint John.

Mohamed is one of over 50 patients who have benefited from the life-changing Surgical Ring Fixation surgery. The specialized surgical technique can be used to help patients with severe deformities of bones or acute forms of infection. A common condition Dr. Matz uses this technique on is Charcot foot, a condition caused by nerve damage.

For Mohamed, being able to walk again has been a blessing.

“I’m very appreciative of all the staff who helped me during this experience. They were all so kind and helpful, and I can’t thank them enough. Their support as I continued to fight and push towards my goal of walking again helped me achieve my goal.”

Grâce à une intervention chirurgicale novatrice menée par le Dr Matz, un chirurgien orthopédique d’Horizon à Saint John, Mohamed a pu marcher à nouveau pour la première fois depuis une dizaine d’années.

Mohamed fait partie de la cinquantaine de patients qui ont bénéficié de la technique de chirurgie révolutionnaire avec fixateur circulaire à anneaux. Cette technique spécialisée peut être utilisée pour venir en aide aux patients qui ont une difformité osseuse grave ou des formes aiguës d’infection. Le Dr Matz a recours à cette technique pour traiter une condition courante appelée le pied de Charcot, ou pied diabétique, un problème causé par des lésions nerveuses.

Pour Mohamed, pouvoir recommencer à marcher a été une bénédiction.

« Je suis très reconnaissant envers tous les membres du personnel qui m’ont soutenu dans cette expérience. Ils ont tous été tellement gentils et aidants. Je ne les remercierai jamais assez. Le soutien qu’ils m’ont fourni dans mes efforts continus pour marcher à nouveau m’a aidé à atteindre mon objectif. »
