This day is dedicated to honoring the resilience, achievements, and contributions of transgender and non-binary individuals in our community and around the world. It's a time to uplift voices, share stories, and promote understanding and acceptance for all.

Let's come together to recognize the vibrant identities within our city, advocate for equality, and support trans rights. Whether through art, activism, or personal connections, every action counts in creating a more inclusive society.

Grateful

I am very grateful for the 28 years I spent working in Horizon Health. It has given me many opportunities to learn and grow as a clinician.

For the first 18 years of my career, I was a hospital based Recreation Therapist... most people don’t even know what that is! (For the record, a Recreation Therapist provides education and makes necessary adaptations to maximize independence and improve quality of life through use of recreation and leisure.) What I learned from this experience is how important relationships are in providing people with a safe place to learn and grow.

As it turns out... I had all these people confiding in me and I had no idea how to help them. So, I decided to go back to school. I took my MEd in counselling and found new opportunities to help others. I had the opportunity to clinically coordinate a residential treatment center for children and youth, coordinated a recovery center for young adults and was a clinical coordinator for an Integrated Service Delivery team (ISD); all the while providing counselling for children, youth and families.

I decided that I wanted to continue this work in a warm secure environment where I could have the flexibility to see people at their convenience. This is why I opened OHANA Counselling.
