What an amazing day we had!!! Taking in the child-like joy of Halloween at the KV Oasis Trunk or Treat 🙂

Thank you to KV Oasis for organizing and hosting this fun event, to Taylor K (kitty cat), Taylor P (Mrs. Incredible) and her Mr. Incredible (who helped bag up extra special treat bags), Jess (Ms. Scarecrow), Tricia (herself in the 80s), and honorable mentions to our heroes who brought in extra candy when we ran out: Taylor K’s dad, Gavin, Adam, and Andy.

Thank you for having us đŸ§ĄđŸ–€

When was the last time someone really listened to what you had to say?

Meet Paul Jenkinson, a 71-year-old retired social worker who is spending a year travelling across the country with two foldable chairs and a sign that’s says, “You are not alone! I will listen”.

He sets up in parks or public spaces and just waits for anyone who may feel the need to just talk. He wants people to know that they are seen and that no matter what they are going through, good or bad, there’s always someone to listen.

After spending a few hours with him I was amazed at how many strangers would see the sign and stop to chat.

He opened up that when he lost his daughter, he struggled a bit to feel comfortable sharing with people what he was going through because he worried that he wouldn’t be heard or that people would try to find words when no words would be enough.

If you see Paul in your town or city, pull up a chair and say hi.

And remember, you are not alone.

🧡 Reminder that everyone is welcome to join us today for the Healing Walk – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

📅 Tuesday, September 30, 2025
🕐 1:00 PM
📍 Trans Canada Trail, Rockwood Park

Join us for an Indigenous-led Healing Walk to honour the children lost to residential schools and support the journey toward healing and reconciliation.

This powerful event began in 2021, when over 1,500 Saint John residents walked in orange shirts to remember, reflect, and call for action.

Wear orange. Bring a hand drum if you have one. Free and open to all. Every step matters. Event is rain or shine.

Today is September 30th, Orange Shirt Day and the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This is a day to remember the children who never returned home and honour those who survived and were forever impacted by the residential school system.

Orange Shirt Day is not a holiday. It is a day to reflect on the history of this country, acknowledge the injustices inflicted upon First Nations, Inuit and Métis families for generations, and to envision a future where truth is understood and reconciliation is more than just a word.

Start your journey towards reconciliation by acknowledging the truth. If you live in Ottawa, we encourage you to attend the gathering in person. If you can’t join us, we invite you to tune in live to the live broadcast of Remembering the Children on APTN, CBC/Radio-Canada, the NCTR YouTube channel, or other broadcast partners.

Together, we remember. Together, we can take truth to action.
