June is Cataract Awareness Month.
What are cataracts? Cataracts are cloudy areas that form on your eye's lens. Age-related cataracts are the most common type.
Symptoms: blurred & cloudy vision, difficulty driving at night, halos, glare & light sensitivity
Prevention: UV protection, healthy food choices & avoiding smoking.
Treatment: Cataract surgery.

$1,000 Opticians Choice Award! Nominate an NB optician who deserves to be recognized. Winner will receive a trophy and $1,000 to be presented at the OAC Education Event in Fredericton on Sept. 30, 2025. The recipient should be an optician who has made a significant contribution to opticianry in NB and nominated by a fellow optician. Both nominee and nominator must be in good standing, with a minimum of 5 years as a member. The Awards Committee will select one name from all nominations received, for final approval by the OANB Council. Nomination forms available through the OANB website member’s section under “News”. Submit complete forms to the OANB office. Nomination period: May 1 – July 31.
