Just a few AFO projects we have going on right now. Three patients each with very different designs. We think it’s so important to combine the patient’s biomechanical needs and their personal goals into a device tailored for their function and success. Plus! Colourful patterns! 😄 What’s not to love!!

Sometimes your patient has a rotating crew of helpers that may not be familiar with orthotics let alone something more complex like a KAFO. We’re excited to see our friend here be able to get moving around his living space safely.

Our resident Masters student has been involved with Makers Making Change this summer where we look for ways to help people in need of adaptive solutions with unique 3D Printing projects.

This is a custom cup holder that clips onto our friend’s wheelchair to hold his favourite cup. He even helped design it. It turned out great and our friend was a happy camper!

The trip was great but we’re back at it at the office! Delivered a set of Two-stage AFOs with an inner SMO that can be worn separately for a little patient this week.

We were so happy to attend the New Brunswick Extra Mural Program Provincial Physiotherapy Meeting. We had the opportunity to discuss the scope of our practice and our goal in promoting community education in regard to diabetic foot care with our fellow allied health clinicians. (And show off a bit of 3D printing fun!) It’s so encouraging to see dedicated professionals come together for the betterment of healthcare and rehab for New Brunswickers!

As part of this month’s Limb Loss and Difference Awareness Terry Fox’s contributions to cancer research cannot cannot be understated. Starting on April 12, 1980, he ran through Saint John on June 1 with little publicity though after a mayor’s radio announcement he did have some spectators. He ended his run in Thunder Bay on Sept 1 after running 5,373 kilometers. Even though he didn’t make it to the west coast, the distance he did run if in a straight line spans the width of Canada from Newfoundland to Vancouver Island.
