Who gets seen as a “leader” isn’t always the same as who leads effectively.

In many organizations, confidence and presence are what stand out first. But the qualities that actually shape strong teams tend to be quieter and less visible.

Things like judgment, empathy and the ability to develop others over time.

A recent article highlights how this gap can lead to weaker teams and missed leadership potential.

It’s a helpful perspective for anyone thinking about how leaders are identified and supported.

We’re down to the last seats for the first French-language offering of Using the Coach Approach™ in May.

For Jules Michaud, this is about more than delivering a program. It’s about creating space for leaders to engage in this work in the language they’re most comfortable in.
Based in New Brunswick, Jules works with leaders in both French and English, which isn’t always easy to find and can make a real difference in how people experience the work.

He has a way of working with leaders that helps them slow down, ask better questions and think things through more clearly.

We’re really glad to have Jules as part of the Vision Coaching team and to be offering this program with him.

Spots are limited and tend to fill quickly.

Every team runs into moments where people see the same situation very differently.

And it’s not always because of the facts. Often, it comes down to how each person interprets what matters most.

A recent article explores how leaders can help teams move through these moments by slowing conversations down, exploring context and making space for different perspectives.

When that happens, discussions tend to become more productive and teams are better able to find solutions that work.

If you look back 10 to 15 years, leadership often meant having the answers, or at least pretending to.

Being certain, setting direction and keeping things on track. Over time, we’ve seen something different start to take shape.

Leaders who ask more questions, create space for others and are open about what they’re working through. When that happens, the difference is noticeable. Conversations open up, teams engage more fully and ideas move more freely.

More and more, the leaders creating the most impact aren’t the ones trying to control every outcome. They’re the ones willing to go first and trust others to step forward with them.

There’s no shortage of leadership content.

But the most useful ideas tend to come from what’s actually happening in the work.

The conversations. The patterns. The challenges that don’t always have clear answers.

Fresh Ideas is where some of that thinking gets captured each month.

Loneliness at work isn’t always obvious.

It can show up in quieter ways: lower engagement, reduced focus, people pulling back from conversations or collaboration.

In a world that moves quickly, it’s easy for connection to become an afterthought. But for leaders, it’s something that needs to be designed with intention.

How people feel at work shapes how they contribute, how they engage and how they perform over time. And leaders play an important role in designing those environments.

If you’re thinking about how to strengthen connection within your team, this is a helpful read:

There’s a lot of conversation right now about what AI will replace. But one thing that continues to stand out is what it can’t replicate.

A recent Forbes article, “The Power of Presence: The Hardest Skill in the Room,” suggests that as AI takes over more structured work, the leaders who stand out will be those who can read a room, build trust and make decisions in real time.

It’s a helpful reminder that some of the most important work happens between people, not the work that’s accomplished quickly with a prompt.

Most organizations focus on senior leaders or frontline teams.

But according to Vision coach Stew Pollard, the real pressure point is somewhere in between.

“Strategy gets created at the top and ex*****on happens at the front line,” he says.

“But everything has to flow through this bottleneck called middle managers.”

With more than 25 years of experience in engineering, operations and change management, Stew has seen where things actually break down — and why.

If strategy isn’t turning into action, this might explain why.

Leadership doesn’t usually fall apart loudly.

It gets heavy quietly.

You’re still performing. Still deciding. Still leading.

But the thinking feels crowded. The clarity takes longer to find.

That’s often the moment leaders reach out for one-to-one coaching.

Not because they need advice.
But because they need space.

To slow down. To think clearly. To hear themselves again.

One-to-one coaching creates that space.

And from there, better leadership follows naturally.

Leadership can feel different under pressure.

Decisions carry more weight. Expectations grow. And the path forward is not always clear.

A recent article in Harvard Business Review, What Authentic Leadership Looks Like Under Pressure, explores what this looks like for leaders today.

Not having all the answers, but staying grounded in values. Communicating clearly, even when things are uncertain. Showing steadiness and care when the stakes are high.

It’s a helpful reminder that leadership is not just about decisions.
It’s about how those decisions are experienced by others.
