Gentle Path is excited and honoured to be taking on this new program!
The Urquhart Program is a perinatal mental health and support initiative designed to address the unique challenges faced during pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period. This program was named in honour of Judy Urquhart, one of the founders of Gentle Path and a dedicated counsellor who profoundly impacted the Saint John community. Judy was passionate about removing barriers to mental health support, ensuring access for all regardless of financial means or social status. Though she passed away in 2021, her vision and passion live on through Gentle Path and now the Urquhart Program, which continues her legacy by building bridges, closing gaps, offering hope, and holding space for families during life’s most vulnerable moments.
Cost and accessing services:
The Urquhart Program runs through Gentle Path Counselling Services. Sessions are $125 each and are usually a hour long. If you have insurance, Gentle Path can direct bill Blue Cross and accepts most insurance companies, but you may be required to pay upfront and submit your own claim. Please check with your policy to be sure it covers counselling and reach out to us if you have further questions!
The “check-ins” are 15 minute phone calls and are NO COST. You can access these with or without having booked sessions. You just need to opt in to the post discharge “check ins” on the self-referral form.
Accessing servics can be done by filling out a self-referral form directly on the Gentle Path website or by phone. PDF professional referral forms are also available if you are a professional looking to refer a patient or client.
These forms can all be found at:

We recognize that one of the biggest barriers to accessing support is financial. Due to this, subsidized sessions are available if needed and an application is available on the Gentle Path website. While there’s a limit to the number of subsidized sessions available to ensure equitable access, we are actively seeking out opportunities to raise funds to expand this support. We have been/will also be looking for community donations to help us provide subsidized services. If you know of anyone who might be interested in supporting the program, let us know!
We appreciate your patience as we work to address this significant barrier to accessing care 💜
We want to take this moment to thank Gentle Path for taking on The Urquhart Program! Especially to Lisa, Trish, and Katie for believing in it and helping to get it off the ground 💜
