Birth plans are trash - and here’s why

You can’t plan for birth… it is the most unpredictable event you’ll ever experience. I did all the things and was super prepared for a unmedicated vaginal birth. Ha! jokes on me… my water broke and nothing happened. I was induced and didn’t dilate. I caved and got the epidural. And at the end of it all, Violet’s heart rate couldn’t tolerate labour anymore and I needed a c-section. To be honest, I was more upset about the epidural than the c-section but it ended up being a good thing I got one.

You can’t plan for birth and that’s okay… at the end of the day as long as you have a happy, healthy baby that’s all that matters.

But you can have birth PREFERENCES! These are things you’d like to have happen if possible. It’s important to know what options you have and being educated can help bring a sense of calm and clarity into the delivery room.

Birth prep appointments are so great for going over breathing, pushing positions and things you can do to prepare for labour. And in the off chance you need a c-section, we’ll chat about that too!

October 1-7th is National Breastfeeding Week! I have to say our journey has been far from perfect but I truly enjoy breastfeeding and am glad I fought to make it work. Between class 4 tongue and lip ties and significant torticollis we started struggling around 3 weeks of age. I’m fortunate to work in this space and know what is and isn’t normal and sought treatment. Violet has been feeding so well since and I am grateful for that 🫶🏼 breastfeeding has so many health benefits and if it’s something you want to do and are struggling… please reach out! I do have training in treating breastfeeding conditions including inflammatory issues such as mastitis or clogged ducts. Or if you have questions about my experience and need some guidance, I’m here for that too!

And if breastfeeding isn’t something that’s working for you or you don’t want to do it for other reasons, that’s okay too! A fed baby is a happy baby 🤍

Seeing a pelvic floor PT in pregnancy is ALWAYS a good idea. Even if you are feeling good and have no concerns, there’s so much to learn!

Four reasons to see a PFPT in pregnancy
1. Learn about your core and pelvic floor and how to use these muscles
2. Individualized exercise recommendations
3. Manage any aches and pains
4. Prepare for birth

As important as it is to see a pelvic floor PT after the baby arrives, setting yourself up in pregnancy can help the recovery process postpartum.

If you have any questions or would like to book in for an assessment, send me a message before I’m out for a bit with my own little turkey🤰🏻

Whether you have symptoms or not, it’s really important to see a pelvic floor physio post op! They take a whole organ out, and with less support in there, your chances of a prolapse goes up!

But no fear! We can make sure things are working efficiently in there, deal with any concerns you may have, or get you back to exercising safely!

I’ve said it once and I’ll say it again… proper lubrication is a game changer when it comes to pain with in*******se - particularly on insertion.

Yes, there may be other reasons for your pain, and more work may need to be done, but getting started with a good l**e can really help!

Silicone is my go to when it comes to pain - it glides nicely, moisturizes the skin and doesn’t get absorbed quite like water-based does. And no, not all brands are created equally. My top two choices are ✨Sliquid Silver or Uberl**e ✨ they can both be found on Amazon and both have minimal ingredients. Uberl**e even boasts about how well it works for chaffing and even holding back baby hairs… heck she’s multipurpose!

The only time you want to avoid silicone l**e is if you’re using a silicone based toy… the two types of silicone do not mesh and will cause the device to break down more quickly.

Questions? Concerns? L**e not cutting it? Send me a DM!
