🌟 September is NICU Awareness Month 🌟

Every year, thousands of families experience the emotional rollercoaster of having a newborn in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). It can be one of the most difficult and uncertain times for a young family.

As doulas, our support doesn’t end at birth. For families with babies in the NICU, our role can shift to offering emotional guidance, advocating for informed decisions, and simply being a steady, compassionate presence in a time of overwhelm.

Let’s honour those in the NICU, the families supporting them, and the healthcare teams providing essential care. And let’s recognize the doulas walking alongside them, ensuring no parent feels alone on this journey. 💛

A Heartfelt Pause 🧡

After a lot of prayer, back-and-forth, and holding on tightly, I believe God has been gently leading me to *pause* Sparrow Doula Services —for now—in this current season.

This was not an easy decision. Sparrow Doula Services has been such a meaningful part of my life for the last 6½ years. I’ve had the honour of walking alongside so many of you—welcoming your first babies, navigating pregnancies during a pandemic, and holding space during both the most joyful and the most difficult moments.

To each of you who trusted me with such an intimate part of your story: thank you.
Your strength, vulnerability, and love have left a mark on my heart that I will always carry.

While I am pressing pause on services at this time, my passion for pregnancy, birth, and empowering you through it all hasn’t gone anywhere. I still deeply believe in the beauty and power of this work—and who knows what the future holds.

For now, I’m leaning into this season with open hands, trusting God with the next steps.

Thank you for your continued love and support. It means the world. 🧡

The Preemie Parent Collective:

The Preemie Parent Collective is a one-of-a-kind community for parents of preemies, combining Grief & Trauma Coaching and peer support. Over the 6-Week program you will build a community of people who "get it", and receive support to help you find practical and realistic ways to process your experience and manage your mindset in a way that honours the hard stuff while finding a path forward.

The group is facilitated by Kieran Powers, a fellow preemie parent and a certified Grief & Trauma Coach who supports families navigating premature
birth, NICU experiences, pregnancy and infant loss, medical parenting, and fertility journeys.

The Preemie Parent Collective Includes:

1 x 2-hour kick off call
5 x 60 minute group coaching sessions
1 x 60 minute one-on-one coaching session
Private WhatsApp community for support between sessions
Eligibility Criteria
Baby should have been discharged from the NICU within the last 2 years
Open to all residents of Canada

An exciting feature of the new Jean Elizabeth Saunders Irving Obstetrics & Newborn Care Unit at The Moncton Hospital is a selfie station, where parents can take a selfie with their new bundle of joy. 👶😍

The selfie station features dry erase boards where parents can add the name, weight and date of birth of their new baby! We are so excited to see your family selfies when the new unit opens in the coming weeks. This station is courtesy of the Friends Foundation. 💙
