When you hear the word ‘inversion’ in regards to Yoga, your brain might think to advanced postures like head or handstand 🤸 but there are plenty of gentle inversions (ie Legs Up the Wall, Supported Bridge, or Forward Bends (such as in this photo) that we can practice to gain many of the same physical and mental benefits.

These positive affects stem primarily from reversing the effects of gravity on the body, which can help decompress the spine and increase blood flow to the upper body & brain 🧠

When we turn ourselves upside down 🙃 we are

☮️ enhancing our circulation and lymphatic drainage

☮️ promoting stress and anxiety reduction

☮️ inviting a fresh perspective, and more!

Did you know when you say to yourself ‘I’m SO tired 😪 and there’s SO much to do, but I can’t stop, I just have to keep going’ that you’re probably in fight or flight?

And when you spend too much time in this state, stuck in a cycle of chronic stress, it disrupts the proper functioning of nearly every other system in the body? 😳

So instead of your body using energy to function properly, maintain homeostasis, repair and heal 💪 it’s being used to ‘keep you alive’ by preparing your body for battle 🥊 or fleeing 🏃‍♂️ the perceived threat (heart rate up, blood pressure up, adrenaline pumping, you get the idea…)

Ideally, we want to be at ease 😊 (not DIS-ease (Ed), and for the nervous system to be flexible and able to respond to stressors when necessary, but to return to a calm state otherwise ☮️

One of the best ways to teach the body this type of ‘flexibility’ is through the practice of Yoga. Our nervous system adapts as we move through various postures and breathing techniques that calm or stimulate the nervous system inviting in that greater fluidity.

For me, Winter ❄️ feels more like the final phase of a cycle before the new one begins in the Spring 🌱 which many cultures consider the New Year.

Its not so much a time to set big goals and add to the schedule, but a time to slow down, be gentle, to conserve energy, to turn one’s attention inward.We leaned into that energy in a big way yesterday at the Bliss Zone ✨ with soothing Restorative Yoga, the perfect wintery oils, and more soul soothing goodness.

If you need a little Wintering in your life we will be doing it again on Feb 7th in Norton from 11:30-3pm and I would love to have you!

A big shoutout to wveyibe who attended and to Sussex Crystal Shop for always choosing the PERFECT 😍 stones for everyone who attends!

Our Story

I was introduced to yoga early on as I curiously watched or practiced with my mother throughout my childhood. Once I myself became a Mother I was drawn back into Yoga applying the principles on and off the mat and have now been teaching for the last 5 years after graduating from Amana Yoga in Nawegewauk, NB. My own personal practice and teaching style has grown and blossomed over the years into something much more than simply a way to find strength and flexibility in the body. I feel yoga, meditation, and energy work are incredible ways to quiet and heal the mind, body, and spirit to find a deeper connection to inner peace that lies within us all. It gives me great pleasure to be able to follow my life's purpose and share this gift of movement, mindfulness, relaxation, re-connection, and healing with others.
