The brain, a small organ that makes up only 2% of your body mass, uses 50% of your body’s glucose. It does so because, as the primary command center of the body, it is wired to prioritize its survival.
Think of your eating habits during stressful times. When there is a stressor, your brain releases hormones that signal the body to take in a lot of energy to deal with the perceived threat. Because of this high energy demand, you will eat high-calorie foods, to give the brain a quick and temporary energy boost.
