“Nothing purchased is too large or too small if it means our patients get their care in our local healthcare centre.”

Elaine Gunderson is a volunteer of 36 years of the Friends of Whitecourt Society. These volunteers run the Repeat Boutique second-hand store in Whitecourt, which has been around since the Whitecourt Healthcare Centre opened in 1966!

All proceeds go toward the purchase of equipment for the hospital, which has allowed the Friends of Whitecourt Society to fund major purchases like all the endoscopy/colonoscopy equipment needed for the hospital – a $300,000 donation – and smaller purchases like the treadmill, computer software and blood pressure cuffs for the stress testing area.

“My children were born in our hospital, many of us were cared for by our excellent staff and our family members have passed in the hospital,” says Gunderson. “We have 94 members because we believe in our cause.”

December 5 is International Volunteer Day. Join us in recognizing Elaine and the more than 9,000 volunteers who donate their time to help AHS deliver quality patient and family-centred care to Albertans. Thank you for your dedication!

Due to the Canada Post strike, AHS Diagnostic Imaging is unable to mail appointment information for those waiting for CT, MRI and PET scans.

Patients are encouraged to sign up for myahsconnect.albertahealthservices.ca to check their appointment status and find out how to prepare for their upcoming exams.

Patients will continue to receive telephone calls for appointments booked within two weeks of their referral, and all patients will continue to receive reminder calls a few days in advance of their appointment.

Albertans with children under five years old can attend an AHS public health clinic, and Albertans and children five+ years old can book with participating pharmacies. Same-Day Nurse Practitioner Appointments Available in Whitecourt

The McLeod River Primary Care Network is pleased to announce that Whitecourt resident and Nurse Practitioner Tiffany Woodward is now working out of the McLeod River PCN central office in Whitecourt – assisting local physicians in providing comprehensive care to the community and supporting the Patient’s Medical Home model of team-based care.

Nurse Practitioners are experienced Registered Nurses with a Master’s Degree. They are equipped with essential skills to diagnose and treat a wide range of common illnesses and injuries for clients of all ages. They can also prescribe medication and order diagnostic tests.

At the McLeod River PCN, our new Nurse Practitioner offers preventative screening care, and same-day appointments.
Patients can phone the McLeod River PCN to book a same-day appointment at 780-779-0079.

The Volunteer Driver Program needs drivers! The schedule is flexible and works well with people on shift work that want to give back to community. The Volunteer Driver program assists those who do not have access to transportation for healthcare appointments in Edmonton or neighbouring communities, and fuel cost are reimbursed by the Whitecourt Cancer & Support Society. Our Physicians are doing their best to offer the shortest wait time to book an appointment with them.

Right now an average wait time to book an appointment with your doctor is 2-3 weeks. In the last 3 months we have had over 90 people No Show to their appointment!

If you book an appointment that you can no longer attend please do your part by canceling it, chances are someone else would be happy to take the available slot.

We require a minimum of 1 hours notice to cancel a regular appointment, 24 hours notice to cancel a medical or a procedure.

With your help we can help the community see their Physician sooner!
