HYPNOSIS... IT'S NOT WHAT YOU THINK...

A lot of people seem to have the wrong idea about what hypnosis actually is, and what it can do. So, for the record...
.. You don't go 'out', you don't go 'under', you don't go 'unconscious', and you can't be made to do anything you don't really want to do. Forget about what you've seen on stage, or tv -that's entertainment, and not the same as doing hypno

sis in a therapeutic context in order to make beneficial changes in your life. It helps if you think about your mind as having two distinct parts -the conscious mind, and the unconscious mind. It's your logical, rational, analytical mind, the part that contains your 'inner voice'. The unconscious, on the other hand, is your creative, imaginative, intuitive mind, the part where your 'gut instinct' comes from. The unconscious actually controls a large part of your day: all the things you now do automatically, without having to really concentrate on anymore, anything from walking, tying your shoelaces, driving (for some!), and any other skill that's been practised repeatedly. In fact, most things we have learned to do were first learnt consciously, then repeatedly performed until they became automatic and therefore performed by the unconscious. Most of the time, this is a useful process, however, sometimes it can cause us problems. The unconscious takes anything done repeatedly -whether good or bad for us- and automates it. This includes bad habits (e.g. smoking or overeating), unhelpful ways of thinking, or even unusual ways of reacting to something (e.g. So, what hypnotherapy does, is to access this unconscious part of the mind, identify the habit/belief causing the problem, and retrain it, using a variety of strategies, in order to eliminate and/or replace it with a more beneficial behaviour. This new, beneficial behaviour can then become the norm, and performed automatically, without much conscious effort at all. All that's required from the client is a willingness to change, and an open mind. Hypnotherapy's been used to help a huge amount of issues, and there's an increasingly large amount of research out there that backs up its effectiveness. So, no matter what your issue is, please get in touch, and at least see what it can offer. There are no such things on here as 'stupid questions', only ' questions', so ask whatever you want, and I'll be in touch as soon as I can

Do you struggle with stress, anxiety, phobias, or panic?
Whether it's a one-off event that shakes your confidence or long-standing fears holding you back, please realise that you don’t have to 'just put up' with them
Hypnotherapy has plenty of strategies and techniques that are shown to help in the vast majority of these cases.
Why not give yourself the power to move beyond these old fears, and get over them for good?
Most can be sorted out in only a few sessions. All you need is a willingness to engage in the process, and enough of an open mind to just give it a go.
Take the first step by getting in touch, and I can help guide you through it from there.

Hypnotherapy. It's not what you think...
A lot of people have the wrong idea about hypnotherapy based on what they think they've seen on a stage, film, or tv programme.
In reality, it isn't about someone else controlling you or 'taking over' your mind.
In fact, it's actually quite the opposite...
It's about giving you BACK some control. Control over that thing that's been bothering you, whether that's a bad habit, an unwanted feeling, or an unhelpful way of thinking.
It's YOU that gets back the control, the choice, the ability to do something different now.
And it's you that does it. All I do is show you how...
So if you want to learn how to take back control, just drop me a message, and we'll take it from there.

It's usually around this time of year that I get a lot of enquiries from people looking to overcome a fear of flying. Often, they've already booked the holiday, but now that the trip's looming up on the horizon, a sense of dread is looming up along with it.
In most cases, a fear of flying isn't technically a phobia, and so shouldn't be treated as such. It's more of what's called an 'anticipatory anxiety' and can very often be sorted out in just a few sessions.
The people I've helped before have said that it makes a massive difference to their enjoyment of their holiday too: just being able to relax without having to worry about that flight home can be a real game-changer.
So, if you're interested in beating the fear for good, don't leave it till the last minute, give yourself plenty of time to train it in.
Just leave me a message or get in touch

Last post on habits for now...
Habit Stacking.
If you're looking to introduce a new (presumably healthy!) habit to your life, one of the most effective ways of doing so is "stack" it onto an existing habit/routine you already do.
For example if you were looking to incorporate some small exercises into your day, you could do something while waiting on the kettle boiling for your morning cuppa, or even when brushing your teeth. You can use anything that you already do habitually and just tag the new one on.
Neuroscience says that by attaching a new habit to something you already do consistently, your brain perceives it as just another step in the routine rather than something entirely new. This helps bypass the usual reliance on motivation or willpower, making it easier to sustain in the long run.
So give it a go, it works!

Following on from my last post about habits, here's a wee tip...
If you're looking to break a habit, or even just to create some sort of change in your life.....Make lots of other, smaller changes at the same time too.
Even if they're nothing to do with your main goal, making tiny adjustments to your daily routines can help you make the big changes more easily.
I know that it sounds counter-intuitive, and goes against the old "One thing at a Time" philosophy, but, it does actually make a lot of sense.
As strange as it seems, doing small things like:
-using your other hand when drinking coffee,
-sitting in a different chair when watching tv,
-waking up 5 mins earlier (or later!),
-starting some new hobby,
-going to a different supermarket, etc
can all prime the brain to expect variety. This in turn makes it more likely it'll accept the big changes you want to make too
So, do some small thing -anything- differently every day, and watch how it helps.
Give it a go - it works!

Still 'thinking' about taking back control over that bad habit?
Some people see the turn of the year as the "right time" to make some positive changes in their life, whereas others might want to wait until they "feel ready", or circumstances are more in their favour.
The thing is though, there never actually is a 'Perfect Time' to beat any habit. Waiting for it just keeps you stuck in the loop.
You either begin now, or you don't.
Time to do it?

We're well into January now, so how's it going with those New Year Resolutions?
Are you still managing to stick to them?
Willpower itself can be great... but sometimes you need more help than just willpower alone.
Hypnotherapy can help you get back on track, make those positive changes, and help you stick with them until they become second nature
Maybe it's just the boost you need

More on making a positive change in October...
Ever think that you can't change?
That you're too stuck in your old ways?
That you can't teach an old dog new tricks?
Well, let me share something with you...
Your brain is constantly changing.
Minute by minute, it's rewriting and updating old networks, making new connections. It can rewire itself, and do so in an instant.
It's doing all this in response to what's in your environment, and what's in your mind.
Neuroscience is now showing that you can literally change the wiring of the brain by changing how you think.
So if you really want to make that change now, then begin by changing your mind.
I can show you how.

So that's October well underway then. It always seems to be a popular month to make a positive change of some sort.
As well as MacMillan's "Go Sober for October" campaign, there's the NHS "Stoptober" anti-smoking drive on as well.
I'm always busy with clients looking to change things up this month too. It's probably just that right time for people: the end of the holiday season, but with still enough of a gap till Christmas to get that new change bedded in.
So, if you're thinking about making that change now, then October's a good month to get it done.
I can help you do it
