The Chat 1st Vision

Chat 1st was borne of a vision to bring together the best of The Brentwood Centre and its inclusive projects.

The Brentwood Centre has long been a model for inclusivity within the leisure industry and the next step was to create a way to champion the great work being done and also to provide a single point of entry for people looking to get involved in physical activity, a place where you could turn if you weren’t quite sure of the support available to you.

Chat 1st is that place, born on 4th December 2018.

So whether it’s Fit & Fed, Cardiac Rehab, our MS Group, Fitness for Health, Ace Weight Matters, Wellbeing Walks, Young at Heart, Aquacess, Aqua Mobility, Cancer Rehab, Disability Swimming, our Autism programme, Mental Wellbeing classes, Dementia Programmes, Friday Night Take Over, the Community Garden, Tea Dances or Active Bingo, Chat 1st is the place to find out.

But why Chat 1st?

Well, because our programmes, like all good things in life, start with a chat.

In today’s modern world we are truly blessed with the amount of ways that we can communicate: text, email, phone, Skype, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, whatever takes your fancy. We have never had as many outlets to communicate with others, but also have never felt so alone.

Isolation and loneliness is an epidemic in our society. The BBC’s recent Loneliness Experiment found that “33% of people who completed the survey told us they often or very often feel lonely” and “40% of 16 to 24-year-olds who took part told us they often or very often feel lonely, compared with 27% of over 75s.” It is a problem affecting all of us, so we wanted to provide a space where you can meet with like-minded people, take part in fun physical activity and, most importantly, chat.

We probably won’t change the world, although we’d like to, but we may make some of our lives a little bit better.
