Before your blood pressure check to ensure an accurate reading, follow these simple tips:

🕒 Relax: sit down for 10 minutes before you get your reading, and try to avoid strenuous activity before the appointment

💧 Drink lots of water and avoid caffeine, alcohol and smoking for at least 30 minutes beforehand

🚽 Empty your bladder, a full bladder may impact your readings

What is a typical high blood pressure rating? 💓 ⚠️

Let’s talk about what those numbers mean! Imagine you’re checking your stats on your digital watch and it shows a blood pressure reading of 134/91 mmHg (millimetres of mercury to measure BP)! 🚨

Here’s a quick breakdown:
🩸 134 Systolic Pressure: This is the top number, and it measures the pressure in your arteries when your heart beats. Ideally, this number should be between 90-120mm Hg

🩸 91 Diastolic Pressure: This is the bottom number, and it measures the pressure in your arteries between heartbeats. It should be between 60 - 80mm Hg for optimal health.

A reading of 134/91 mmHg is considered high, which means your heart is working harder than it should be to pump blood through your body.
