Been thinking about backbends and how we can encourage a more consistent curve through the spine (those of you in my class will be sick of hearing these!) 🌀

- not throwing your head back in upward dog/cobra etc (a baby can do this with no neck strength and so we lose the deliberate activation of our necks during the backbend!! also creates a sharp angle in the spine - ouch)
- keeping heels a little further away from hips when entering bridge/wheel. this creates more length through the lower back when entering the backbend, minimising the common sharp bend in the lower back and giving you more opportunity to engage the glutes to lift higher!
- pull your chest/heart through the shoulders and find a forward momentum, rather than directly upwards, giving you more space to find mobility in the upper back
