The Martyr Gremlin makes you believe your needs come last.
It says:
You can’t stop now.
They’re relying on you.
It’s selfish to put yourself first.

This gremlin thrives in overgiving. In self-sacrifice. In never resting because someone always needs something.

But underneath that is a fear — that if you stop, everything will fall apart.

This pattern is not a sign of strength. It’s a sign that you’ve learned survival through service.
And it’s exhausting.

You are allowed to rest.
You are allowed to receive.
You are allowed to live your life for yourself — without guilt.

Most habits don’t stick because people are weak.
They stick because, at some point, they served a purpose.

Smoking often began as a way to cope —
to pause, to regulate, to manage stress, or to feel grounded.

That doesn’t make someone broken.
It makes them human.

But coping strategies aren’t meant to last forever.

When your identity shifts —
when you no longer see yourself as “someone who smokes” —
the habit has nothing left to attach to.

Change doesn’t come from fighting who you are.
It comes from remembering who you were before the habit arrived.

I’ve just updated my page banner because I’m opening something new that I know many of you quietly struggle with.

Phoenix Hypno Slim is a 4-week live Zoom programme designed for people who are tired of starting over with weight, food, and self-control.

This isn’t about another plan, rule set, or pushing harder.
It’s about working with the part of the mind where habits actually run.

Because for most people, overeating isn’t about knowledge —
it’s about stress, emotional patterns, tiredness, and automatic responses that kick in before you’ve had time to think.

Over 4 weeks, we work on:

Why your mind repeats thoughts you don’t agree with

Have you ever noticed your mind offering up thoughts you don’t actually believe?

Thoughts that feel intrusive, dramatic, or completely unhelpful and yet they keep appearing.

That doesn’t mean you secretly agree with them.
And it doesn’t mean something is wrong with you.

The unconscious mind isn’t trying to be logical — it’s scanning for risk.

When something feels uncertain or emotionally important, it throws up thoughts as signals, not instructions.

Arguing with those thoughts or trying to push them away can often give them more power.

Understanding why they’ve appeared usually takes the heat out of them.

When the system feels safer, repetitive thoughts tend to soften on their own.

Not because you forced them away — but because they no longer need to keep flagging danger.

You are not your thoughts.

They’re information — not orders.

Life gets easier when you stop arguing with the pace it’s moving at.

There are moments when you feel calmer, more like yourself,
and decide things are going to be different from now on.

Then life speeds up again.
Pressure creeps back in.
And it’s easy to think,
“Here we go again — I’ve failed.”

But that isn’t failure.
It’s just life doing what life does.

When things feel overwhelming, simplify.
One thing at a time still works.

Some days call for effort.
Some days call for tea and perspective.
