The annual GP patient survey was published this week and we're really chuffed with the results. This is a national survey carried out by Ipsos where a sample of patients from every GP practice in England answer some key questions. The full results for Berkeley Place Surgery are here

https://www.gp-patient.co.uk/patientexperience/results?code=L84030

As always, there are a few things we need to reflect on and try to improve, particularly around making it easier to contact us and ensuring you see your usual or preferred GP. However overall 88% describe their experience as good or very good. This compares with 75% nationally and 80% for Gloucestershire.

Thank you to all of our patients who returned the annual survey. And thank you to our amazing clinicians, receptionists and administrators who work so incredibly hard every single day and always aim to provide the very best care. We couldn't do this without you all!

There has been a lot of interest from patients about the use tirzepatide (Mounjaro) for weight loss purposes. At the moment, this is not available through any GP practice in Gloucestershire. Local NHS teams are working hard to put in place the support arrangements to enable this. Initially this will be for those patients who would benefit most from treatment.

We recognise it can be difficult for some people living with obesity to access the support you feel you need and that those most likely to benefit from this medication may wish to access it as soon as possible. We are committed to updating you on service developments as they occur. Meanwhile, please don’t call your GP or make an appointment to ask for tirzepatide while treatment arrangements are being finalised.

Please see further information here

Thank you!

The best thing to do in the hot weather is stay out of the direct sun, especially during the hottest part of the day, between 11am and 3pm, as UV rays are strongest during these hours.

• If you’re going out in the hot weather, walk in the shade, apply sunscreen, wear a hat, sunglasses and light, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothes

• Apply sunscreen frequently of at least SPF 30 and 4 or 5 star ultraviolet A (UVA) protection regularly to exposed skin

• Drink plenty of fluids and avoid excess alcohol during the hot weather

• Avoid extreme physical exertion during the hot weather. If you can’t avoid strenuous outdoor activity, keep it for cooler parts of the day such as early morning or evening

Well, The Wilson Warriors did it! 🥳

Eleven of us from Berkeley Place Surgery and Royal Crescent Surgery ran 5 km this morning round Cheltenham Racecourse as part of the Pretty Muddy Race For Life. Along the way we crawled up, under, through and over a number of obstacles that had been placed around the course.

And, my goodness, didn't we get wet and muddy along the way? We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and in true team spirit, went down the final muddy slide and ran over the finish line together.

Between us, the Wilson Warriors have so far raised a whopping £1,455 for Cancer Research UK so a huge THANK YOU to our friends, family, colleagues and patients who have supported us so far.

Cancer Research UKs work has helped double cancer survival in the UK in the last 50 years. This is incredible progress but there’s more to be done. The Wilson Warriors sponsorship page is still open so if you'd like to support us and help fund more life saving research, click here

Cases of Parvovirus, also known as ‘slapped cheek syndrome’, are on the rise. Most adults are immune, but if you are not immune and catch parvovirus in pregnancy, it can pose a risk to the baby, especially before 20 weeks.

Contact your GP or midwife if you are pregnant and you develop a rash and mild flu-like symptoms, or if you think you may have been exposed to someone who has parvovirus. Your booking bloods can then be tested to see if you have immunity to the potential virus. Exposure is defined as face-to-face contact or being in the same room for more than 15 minutes.

The risk of passing the virus to your baby is low, and most people who have confirmed parvovirus will have healthy babies. If you do develop the virus, you will be offered extra monitoring throughout your pregnancy.
