Future planning!

This is something we talk about extensively at our information sessions. We really urge people to start thinking about the future and putting some formalities in place. Documents we suggest you think about are
👉 ReSPECT form- The ReSPECT process creates personalised recommendations for a person’s clinical care and treatment in a future emergency in which they are unable to make or express choices.

👉 Lasting Powers of Attorney- both health and welfare and financial

👉 Advance decisions- legally binding

👉 Advance statements- not legally binding

Because this post resonated a lot with people last year, we have decided to share it again ❤

During this time of the year, there is a huge expectation that we will have a great time. Excitement has been building for months, the tree is probably up, presents bought and wrapped. So why do you still feel rubbish?

If you're supporting someone with dementia, it can feel like you have additional pressure and worries on top of the other emotions that this time of year can bring.

So what can you do?
✨ Take off the pressure
✨ Be prepared to adapt
✨ Say no
✨ Get outside
✨ Take shortcuts
✨ Recharge when you can
✨ It's ok to avoid it

To read more about this, have written some handy tips.

In June, launched their Dementia Unseen campaign, asking supporters to join them in urging the Government to guarantee everyone the right to an early and accurate dementia diagnosis.

They said:

Half of people in the UK will be affected by dementia – by living with the condition, as a carer, or both. Yet 1-in-3 people with dementia don’t get a proper diagnosis.

That’s not just a crisis. It’s wrong.

Over 67,000 people across the UK stood with us and signed our petition calling for things to change.

On 12th November 2025, delivered your signatures to the doors of 10 Downing Street in London, alongside TV presenter Anneka Rice, Alzheimer’s Research UK ambassador Scott Mitchell and Alzheimer’s Research UK supporters Dineo Moema, from London, and Marian and Geoff Wheeler, from Milton Keynes. Together, we showed the Government that this issue cannot be ignored.

Speaking about why she supports the Dementia Unseen campaign and petition, Anneka Rice said: “I’m extremely proud to stand alongside Scott and Alzheimer’s Research UK’s supporters in calling for change, and if this campaign helps even one person avoid the pain, fear and confusion that comes with a delayed diagnosis, then it’s already made a difference.”
