Such a rewarding afternoon in clinic today. Two very different cases but ultimately both had undiagnosed tongue ties causing lots of feeding issues. Both felt immediate improvements after the procedure and hopefully will continue to do so going forward with their feeding journeys😊

Often when families come to see me they say “ I was told my baby doesn’t have tongue tie”. When I ask how they were diagnosed with not having a tongue tie they say “ they just had a quick look in their baby’s mouth”.

To diagnose a baby with or without a tongue tie the health care professional must be qualified to do so and simply having “ a quick look” isn’t good enough 😡

As a health visitor and qualified tongue tie practitioner I wouldn’t try to diagnose a medical condition ie diabetes unless I had the qualifications and correct diagnostics to do so. So why do health care professionals do this with tongue ties? 🤷‍♀️

Possibly they feel under pressure to give an opinion or it could be that they think it is as simple as just giving it a quick look.

Tongue tie diagnosis is so much more than this and shouldn’t be undermined or underestimated if your baby is having feeding issues.

If your baby is having feeding issues that can’t be resolved infant feeding support ask to be referred to a qualified tongue tie practitioner or book in to The Tongue Tie Clinic.

2 years ago I made the first steps in my journey to study, train and build my own business in tongue tie diagnosis and treatment. I was fortunate that my son had his tongue tie treated quickly, which enabled me to continue breastfeeding. In my role as a health visitor in the NHS I’m all too aware of the frustration with long waiting lists and decided to offer a local and timely service for families in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire and beyond. I offer both clinic and home visits ( available upon request) and routinely treat babies up to 6 months old.
