What an incredible first year it’s been working in partnership with Heart of Worcestershire College 🌟

When we launched this programme in Worcester, we started with just five students, and today, we are absolutely delighted to confirm that this September, we’ll be welcoming 11 students to this provision!

Looking ahead, we are incredibly excited to see how this offering will continue to evolve and blossom over the coming years.

We also hope that, in time, we can expand this model and collaborate with more mainstream education providers, so we can create even more accessible and personalised opportunities for young people with disabilities in our local communities.🎓 ✨

Here at National Star, we are excited to offer a wide range of part-time Community Learning courses designed to support you in learning something new, getting active, and meeting new friends!

If you’re aged 18 or over and have a disability, there may be a part-time learning opportunity that’s just right for you. We guarantee a warm welcome, lots of encouragement and the chance to develop some exciting new skills. 🎨 🏊

Available courses include:
- Ceramics
- Cookery
- Fitness
- Swimming
- Arts and Crafts

Hogtastic! 🦔

National Star students are finishing the academic year on a high after discovering that they have achieved Platinum Hedgehog Friendly Campus status.

Achieving this prestigious award is a significant achievement that has only been possible thanks to the teamwork and determination of a wide range of students and staff who have:

- Built bug houses to provide food sources for hedgehogs🐞
- Made hedgehog houses out of recycled wooden pallets 🏚️
- Planted 4,000 saplings to created nature highways for hedgehogs to roam freely across campus🌳
- Talked to local councillors, brownie groups and gardeners, as well as young climate action activists about hedgehog conservation📢
- Picked kilos and kilos of litter off the street and parks of Cheltenham that posed a danger to wandering hedgehogs🚯

Watch this space for news of how we plan to ensure our grounds continue to be nature friendly in the next academic year and beyond!

The last few weeks of term were absolutely jam-packed, so we thought we'd share a few more photos of what our students got up to! 📸✨

Photos 1–4: Our Hereford, Ullenwood, and Wales campuses all had their own sports day 🏃‍♀️🏅. National Star in Wales students voted for a Disney theme 🎬👑 and took part in a round robin of Disney-themed activities 🧚‍♀️🎨🎶.

Photo 5: Dinky Ponies came to visit... always a highlight for students (and staff!) 🐴💖

Photo 6: Students, staff and volunteers partied the afternoon away together at our Summer Celebration 🎉🎶🌞.

National Star students are driving real change in Cheltenham!

Young adults with disabilities took Cllr Julian Tooke and Gloucestershire Highways on a walk around Pittville, highlighting inaccessible pavements and pathways.

Within days, changes were marked up outside Bradbury Gardens and West Drive was cleaned.

"It was good to be listened to and heard," said the students involved.

Student Poppy added: "It will make me feel much safer going out into the community as the bumpy pavements are really scary."

Mike Cooke said: “The students felt that the team from Gloucestershire Highways and Cllr Tooke listened to them, and that they were interested in understanding the challenges that the students faced when they are going out. The changes will not only make a difference to the students but to everyone who has mobility challenges.”

Cllr Julian Tooke said: “I am immensely grateful for the meetings that I have had with National Star College. I have learnt so much and am so pleased that we can make a positive difference. The work that we are doing in collaboration with National Star students will benefit the broader community too. Thank you National Star College!”

It was a fantastic day of celebration at our Ullenwood campus as we honoured this year’s leavers across three inspiring award ceremonies. 🎉

From building confidence and independence to enhancing communication and getting ready for life beyond college, their progress has been nothing short of amazing.

We held an amazing Leavers' Award Ceremony for our National Star in Wales students this morning. It was great to hear about everyone's incredible achievements at college, and to celebrate the occasion afterwards with a little party!

Yesterday we held our Summer Party at Ullenwood to celebrate our amazing students and staff as we approach the end of term. 🎉

Everyone enjoyed a fantastic afternoon filled with a BBQ, afternoon tea, a disco, a selfie station – and brilliant live music from Joseph Morris and Camilla Lewington Music! 🎶
