Raindancers - Child and Family Mentoring 5* Bespoke, long term support and mentoring

POWER HOURS Insightful and targeted discussion. Just loved it and cried buckets when I left.

My name is Lynda Taverner, founder of Raindancers- Child and Family Mentoring. Over the past 34 years, I've worked in and with a variety of settings and agencies. I started out with an N.N.E.B qualification (Early Years Education and Psychology) and have slowly but surely added to my expertise over the years. After qualifying, I worked as a Nanny for several years, before moving from London to Che

ltenham, taking up a position within Cheltenham Ladies College. After a few years, it was time to return to work within Early Years establishments and Family Centres. A new position followed at Battledown Child and Family Centre ( Special Educational Needs). Returning to London, I was to enter the world of Social Services in Barking and Dagenham. First, in a council-run nursery, then I was asked if I would join the area team of Social Workers. My years of experience were now really pulling together.... before long I was headhunted and joined the Child Protection Team in Southend. The arrival of my first son saw me move on from that role and a return to living in Cheltenham followed. With a young son and another on the way, I was soon involved in the local Playgroup and on the payroll, leading the group. Voluntary leading a thriving Parent and Toddler Group as well, I was keeping busy. The time came, however, to get back into the Educational System. Special Educational Needs, Mental Health and Pastoral Care and Support have now been my passion for the past 9 years. Over these past 34 years, I have developed and increased my expertise

Being a parent advocate is just one of the services offered here at Raindancers - Child and Family Mentoring.
Drop me a message if I can be of any help. 🤗

I wish this wasn't the case but I would strongly urge parents to not attend meetings alone.

In the background I have been supporting a family and attending meetings with them because the information being given to them was illegal.

I don't have the time or capacity to take on much advocacy work but I have noticed a difference in my own meetings when I am supported and this particular parent was being targeted by the school SENCO.

For context the parent has three children but one of them is struggling with emotional based school attendance. Many things were quoted and they were soon being threatened with fines.

I stepped in at a point when I knew they were exerting their status over the parent who is new to this arena.

The moment I attended a meeting the rhetoric began to change.

There was no longer a power imbalance and we began to start making progress.

However, the local authority agreed a referral for six weeks support which was not conducive to the child's needs, which we highlighted in a meeting. Of course it still went ahead.

They held an urgent meeting and the blame has now fallen on the child rather that what was being offered wasn't appropriate. They 'thought' six weeks of joining a group of students online, with new teachers, via Google Classrooms would help the transition back into school!

This is for a child missing in education for over a year!

You couldn't make this stuff up.

This meeting the parent attended alone and the professionals have now stated:

- they will no longer authorise absences as of next week
- the parent needs a new GP letter or to go through A & E
- the six week referral is closing

All of this was said because the parent was alone and targeted.

So please, where possible, always take someone with you for moral support.

Any advice for this parent please do drop in the comments below!!

Such a great snippet of a TED Talk. Creativity and being told they/you are wrong - what damage is done ☹️
My thoughts are we are borne of the Creator therefore we are creative

We’re talking failure, ab*se, councils and tribunals … This is a comment I made on another page with Michael Charles from Sinclair Law.
No wonder councils are millions in dept or even declaring bankruptcy.
Oh the money wasted on wicked schemes, which lands like a pebble on the pond, and those rings of wickedness just get wider and wider.
Oh get me, all deep this morning, yet truth remains - there is wickedness in them there hills!
This wickedness so needs a massive floodlight directed right at it!
Let me know your thoughts.

That will do me very nicely today!
What took me less than hour to recognise, took CAMHS far too long!!
I’m thrilled for this family and honour their determination and resolve to see this through.
And it all came about over a packet of homemade scones, and the power of conversation!
Don’t ever be afraid to speak up and indeed ask for help.
A Raindancers jig is taking place. 🤗
