The covers contain a card inside which allows the user to add their name, age, address, medical conditions or other information about how they like to be communicated with.

➡️ Anyone who feels they may benefit from one can collect a cover from their nearest Police Enquiry Office (PEO).

Last week we said a very fond farewell and thank you to our colleague Nicki Grey who has retired from her role in the Advisory Teaching service as Specialist Lead for AAC (Alternative and Augmentative Communication ).

Nicki has worked in Gloucestershire for over 25 years and her support has enabled children and young adults with complex communication needs to thrive in education settings across the county.

Nicki has presented at regional and national forums, championing the rights of children to access appropriate assessment, equipment provision and support to use AAC successfully.

We wish her all the best for her retirement.

Some of the children who we work with also have needs in the area of anxiety. Take a look at the new app being provided by NHS Gloucestershire which offers support in this area in a fun and motivating way.

https://www.facebook.com/share/1EkyqskKqZ/?mibextid=wwXIfr

Children across Gloucestershire, and their parents, carers and teachers, are feeling the benefits of an innovative digital approach to tackling anxiety.

The Lumi Nova app, which combines Cognitive Behavioural Therapy techniques with an easy to follow challenge game, has been accessed by more than 1,700 children since it was launched for families in the county.

Recommended by NICE and funded by the NHS, Lumi Nova is a fun, quest-style game which helps provide children aged 7 to 12 with skills to face their worries. NHS Gloucestershire is funding free access for families in the county who may find the app useful.

The app is suitable for Apple and Android devices and is free to use for anyone living in Gloucestershire.

Don’t assume that a child or young person who is finding it difficult to focus and sustain attention in the classroom has Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). It could be a sign of Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/1UrrjoqPUx/?mibextid=wwXIfr

ADHD and DLD can have overlapping symptoms and lead to misdiagnosis. Learn more at DLDandMe.org by reading the article by Tatyana Elleseff MA CCC-SLP https://www.dldandme.org/all-articles/beyond-adhd-the-hidden-language-challenges-behind-academic-struggles?rq=beyond
