Remembering Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926 - 2022
Everyone here at Malvern View was so saddened by the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth yesterday. She had been a constant presence in our lives for over seventy years. There is no doubt that this is a seismic event in our nations history and will affect many people deeply for days to come. Her Majesty had been our country’s figurehead; a guiding light providing constancy and reassurance through times of war, political turmoil, hardship and, more recently, the pandemic. Her stoicism during turbulent times and her values of service and duty have resonated throughout the country; it is hard to imagine her not being with us any more, and for many of us here it is as if we have lost a member of the family.
This loss will be hard felt by our residents at Malvern View, many of whom have lived as the Queen’s contemporaries. They have always shown great warmth and support for Her Majesty especially on the occasions of Birthdays and significant events, like the recent Jubilee, with the home often being decked out in Union Jacks and bunting. Many will feel a sense of loss for some time to come. For our part we will look to support them through this time and we will no doubt be asking them to reflect on their memories of The Queen during the days to come. We hope to be able to share with you some of those thoughts and memories.
Our Queen was much loved for being, not only our Monarch, but also someone who represented the best of us. Despite her position as the head of our nation, she never seemed to let it go to her head, understanding that being able to relate to the ‘ordinary’ person was at the heart of her very human appeal. Today it will feel to many that they have lost a member of the family. Her reign touched us all and today many of us are sad, but we should also take time to reflect on a wonderful life lived in the service of our country, by someone who will forever remain in our hearts.
