Cobalt is proud to be part of the journey to net zero. 🌱
We're committed to reaching net zero carbon emissions by 2035, and achieving a net zero supply chain by 2045.
What does that actually mean?
By 2035, we aim to stop contributing to the build-up of greenhouse gases like carbon dioxide and methane in the atmosphere. In other words, the carbon we emit will be balanced out by the carbon we remove.
We’re already making progress
✅ Smarter scanning: New software helps power down scanners outside of operating hours.
✅ Energy-saving upgrades: Improved insulation at Cobalt Imaging Centre has helped cut our energy use, saving an impressive 40 tonnes of CO₂ so far.

Today we were delighted to welcome representatives from NatWest to Cobalt as part of our 60th anniversary celebrations. The team included not only our client and commercial partners but also their local and national heads of healthcare.
As our longstanding banking partner, it was a pleasure to show them the work we do, share more about the impact of our charity, and give them a behind-the-scenes tour of our scanning departments.
Equally it was interesting to hear from their team how they could further support Cobalt by both direct support and also connecting us with appropriate partners and charitable institutions to share lessons and experiences.
Thank you to the NatWest team for taking the time to visit and learn more about how we’re supporting patients and driving innovation in medical imaging. 💙

Trusted by 100% of patients 💙
In June, every single patient who came to our Imaging Centre in Cheltenham and completed our feedback questionnaire said they were treated with respect and would recommend us.
That’s not just last month, this marks nine consecutive months of 100% patient recommendation.
This is a true reflection of the professionalism of our entire team. From the moment a patient walks through our doors to the moment they leave, we work hard to ensure they feel safe and valued.

Medical charity Cobalt is proud to support vital prostate cancer screening trial at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park ⚒️💙
A clinical trial using magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) with the aim of helping detect prostate cancer - particularly in high-risk groups - has been launched today at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. This initial pilot precedes a full launch in September. The trial, made possible by a partnership between Cobalt and University College London (UCL), is looking at a new way to diagnose prostate cancer in its early stages, when treatment is more likely to be successful. Cobalt is providing one of their 3.0 Tesla mobile MRI units for the participants, who will undertake a bespoke 20-minute scan, along with completing a questionnaire and a blood test during a single appointment.
Prostate cancer is the most common form of cancer in men in the UK.

We are a medical charity helping people affected by cancer, dementia and other conditions. Our sophisticated and innovative scanning equipment uses the latest technology. Each year we provide diagnostic imaging for over 65,000 patients at our Imaging Centres in Cheltenham and Birmingham and through our fleet of six mobile MRI scanners that travel throughout the three counties (Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire) and beyond.
We focus on offering equipment and services not generally available within the NHS. Our unique Imaging Centre in Cheltenham houses the UK's first high field Open MRI scanner, designed for claustrophobic and larger patients, a high definition 3.0 Tesla MRI scanner, a state-of-the-art PET/CT scanner and the world’s first open extremity Cone Beam CT scanner. The mobile MRI fleet includes two of Europe's first and only 3.0 Tesla MRI scanners and new 1.5 Tesla wide bore MRI systems. These units have been built to improve patient comfort, enable shorter scanning times and deliver superior image quality.
We invest in research, equipment and education which aim to deliver improvements in clinical diagnosis in the future. We work closely with the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham to deliver a state-of-the-art imaging centre primarily for research scanning for the Institute of Translational Medicine. The centre includes a high definition 3.0 Tesla MRI scanner.
We deliver a programme of local, national and international training and education events for medical professionals.
Our Cancer Prevention Team visit schools, colleges, business, social clubs and community groups within the Three Counties to discuss preventative measures and to raise awareness of how early detection can improve outcomes.
