This week is . Cervical screening is a free health test on the NHS which checks for high risk HPV, which is the cause of nearly all cervical cancers. If you're nervous about attending your screening, check out our article which explains what support is available and what adjustments you can ask for - https://bit.ly/49yTHh7

It's Cervical Cancer Prevention Week. The symptoms of cervical cancer aren’t always obvious, the most common symptoms are:

- Vaginal bleeding that's unusual for you - after menopause, between regular periods or after s*x
- Unexplained pain in your lower back or between your hip bones (pelvis)
- Pain or discomfort during s*x
- Changes to vaginal discharge like a change to smell

If you have any of these symptoms, it is important that you see your GP, even if you have recently had a clear cervical screening test. It’s usually something minor, but early checks give the best chance for successful treatment.

Knowing what to look out for is really important.

A community pharmacy is a great first port of call for advice on minor health issues and medicines.

Many pharmacies have extended opening hours and no appointment is needed.
They have consulting rooms if you want to talk to someone in private about your symptoms.

They can offer treatment and advice for things like:
β€’ aches and pains
β€’ allergies
β€’ bites and stings
β€’ colds and nasal congestion, sore throat or flu
β€’ cold sores and mouth ulcers
β€’ constipation
β€’ cystitis
β€’ dry/sore eyes
β€’ ear of headache
β€’ emergency contraception (morning after pill)
β€’ nappy rash and teething
β€’ skin irritations and acne
β€’ sprains
β€’ stomach upsets and diarrhoea
β€’ sunburn.
Pharmacists are highly qualified healthcare professionals and can also advise on whether another NHS service is required.
For more on community pharmacies and where to find them, click www.nhs.uk , use the NHS app or the ASAP Glos NHS website and app.
