𝗟𝗼𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗿𝗮𝗴𝗲
A timely photo.
Today, I had the honour of being invited as keynote speaker at the inaugural Women in Aesthetics Conference to speak on the subject of “𝗯𝗮𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲”.
Before anything else, I want to acknowledge the women before me, those I never met, who made the woman I am today, possible.
The women who challenged the status quo.
Who fought so we could use our voices.
So we could be heard, not just seen.
So we could vote.
They set out to prove that women could do 𝘢𝘯𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨& we proved that. But somewhere along the way… we began to assume that meant we should do 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨…all at the same time. 😮💨
Did you know that working mothers carry 67% more cognitive load than working men? The invisible mental labour of planning, anticipating, organising..
And this is not an anti-men post.
I am married to a man who carries more of the load than most, and we are raising two boys who know to respect, value, support & honour women.
This is just real talk, because I refuse to be a part of the social media problem that makes so many women feel they are “late” & need to do more.
I get asked, ALOT:
“How do you do it all?”
The truth? 𝗜 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁.
Today I shared a framework I use after years of doing too much&learning that balance is not doing it all, but rather.. prioritising & intentional alignment.
For too long, many women have carried too much, silently. Just because we seem to carry it well…does not mean the load isn’t heavy.
Today, I witnessed the impact that has had on so many of us. Perhaps it’s time we spoke about that weight, openly, honestly & with compassion.
So that we too can challenge the status quo for the next generation of women, some of whom we won’t meet.
For our daughters.
For now, I want to say this to the incredible women i work alongside&to the women who look to me for leadership.
I do not stand ahead of you.
I stand beside you.
When your strength waivers, mine doubles.
When mine has waived, yours has doubled.
And for that; I will be forever grateful 🙏🏼❤️
