If you have flu, there are some things you can do to help get better more quickly.

Flu will often get better on its own, but it can make some people seriously ill. It's important to get the flu vaccine if you're eligible.

MMRV is now part of the NHS routine childhood vaccination programme, replacing the MMR vaccine.

It protects against measles, mumps, rubella and chickenpox.

Chickenpox is very common and can sometimes lead to serious complications, so vaccination helps reduce the risk of serious illness as children grow.

You don’t need to do anything — your GP will be in touch when your child is due.

Severe weather warnings for snow mean dangerous travel conditions are anticipated across the East Midlands tonight and Friday 9 January. If you can, stay indoors and avoid unnecessary journeys.

Stay warm by heating up your home and wear layers. Ensure you're stocked up with food, water, and basic medicines for coughs and sore throats. Act early if you feel unwell - don't wait to get your symptoms treated.

Snow and ice warnings are in place across the country ❄️

Falls are common, particularly in older people. If you or someone else falls, try to stay calm. Take a couple of minutes to check for any pain or injuries and see if you think you can get up.

If they need further help, call 111 or 999.

❄️🌨️ With Storm Goretti moving in, an amber cold alert remains in place across the East Midlands from tomorrow, Thursday 8 January until Friday 9 January.

Cold weather can have a serious impact on health, remember to choose the right NHS service for you.

If you’re unsure where to turn:

- NHS 111 can help you decide what to do next

- Your local pharmacy can offer advice and treatment for many winter illnesses

- Your GP can support ongoing or worsening symptoms

- Urgent Treatment Centres can help with injuries or illnesses that aren’t life-threatening

- Only attend A&E for serious or life-threatening emergencies

Please check on vulnerable people in your community, particularly older adults and those with existing health conditions, who may need extra support during this period. Simple actions can really help, such as:

- Making sure they have enough food and medication

- Helping with shopping or prescription collections

- Checking they are keeping warm at home

Making the right choice this winter helps you, and helps the NHS when it’s needed most. 💙

❄️ Keep warm, keep well this winter

If you’re able to, please look out for neighbours, older people and anyone who might struggle more in colder weather, even a quick message or knock can help.

Cold weather can affect health, particularly for older people, young children and those with long-term conditions.

Your local pharmacy can help with some common conditions. Or you can use your GP’s online system for non-urgent queries and you should get a response that day.

If you need urgent health advice contact NHS 111.

📊 December stats are in!
You may have noticed our team giving you a quick call to confirm your appointments. This extra step is helping us reduce our DNA (Did Not Attend) rates — and it’s working. We’ve seen a significant drop over the past month.

✨ Thank you for your support so far.
Please continue to help us keep these numbers low by cancelling any appointments you can’t make. Every cancellation helps us offer that slot to someone else who needs it.
