Valentine’s Day can be a complicated day.

For those who are grieving, the day may feel quieter, heavier, or filled with memories of a love that still lives on. Love doesn’t end; it changes, but it remains deeply present.

When we speak with families, they often share the stories that matter most, how their parents met, the courtship, and the love letters once carefully written and kept. Words sent across time, held onto for a lifetime. A quieter, old-fashioned kind of love, but no less powerful.

Our Valentine’s window display reflects this through these letters of love, a reminder of connection, remembrance, and the bonds that continue long after loss.

If you’re passing by, we invite you to pause and reflect in your own way. Whether your love is celebrated in the present or held in memory, it is no less meaningful. It’s okay to celebrate love, and it’s okay to grieve — often, they exist side by side.💚

Funeral directors supporting funeral directors 🎩

Today, we had the pleasure of welcoming Inez from Kinton & Daughter Family Funeral Directors to our office. It’s always wonderful when colleagues from across the profession come together, sharing stories, experiences, collaborating, and supporting one another.

Josh and Inez reminded us of the importance of friendship and solidarity within our profession. In a field that can be emotionally demanding, having peers to connect with, learn from, and lean on makes all the difference.

Plus, Inez gave us a fresh set of eyes on our office décor, sharing her interior design tips to help make our space even more welcoming and utilising our calming space for families. Who knew funeral directors could double as décor consultants? 😄

Today, at Trent Valley Crematorium, we gathered to celebrate the life of a much-loved lady whose vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Even as the rain fell and umbrellas filled the grounds, a beautiful sea of colour shone through, an uplifting tribute to a woman whose personality was as bright and bold as the hues worn in her honour.

In recognition of her favourite film, Up, the team wore different coloured ties, and a cluster of balloons was placed at the centre of the chapel. The symbolism of Up, its message of love, adventure, resilience, and the importance of family which felt especially fitting today. It speaks to the way she lived: with passion, laughter, and a heart full of care for those around her.

We extend our deepest love and condolences to all who are feeling this loss. May you find peace, warmth, and comfort in the treasured memories you hold close to your hearts.💛💗💜💚🧡

Happy New Year from Our Family to Yours! 🌟

As we welcome a new year, we wanted to reintroduce ourselves to our wonderful community and any new followers who’ve joined us.

At the heart of our small, independent, family-run business, the faces you’ll see and the voices you’ll hear most often are Josh and Amber. While we both do every role in the business, we naturally play to each other’s strengths.

Together, we share a deep compassion for conducting funerals. Josh particularly enjoys sitting with families to arrange each unique service, getting involved in community events, offering bereavement support, and—most of all—cleaning the office while singing like he’s live at Wembley. 🎶 When he’s not in uniform, you’ll often find him out walking his dog Lenny with his partner, taking part in park runs, or spending time with friends and family.

Amber loves personalising funerals, making sure Josh is completely organised (which is why many of our colleagues jokingly call her his personal carer), running our social media, solving any technology questions, and supporting families when they need us the most. Outside of work, she can usually be spotted with a bucket hat on at a summer festival or socialising with friends.

One thing Amber refuses to get involved in? Josh’s obsession with the office fish tank. 🐟

Even though we aren’t related by blood, we’ve known each other for so long that Amber was just 13 when she first met Josh, and we’ve been like brother and sister ever since. Together, we ensure every funeral is handled with compassion, care, and attention to detail.

Thank you for trusting our family to support yours. We can’t wait to continue serving our community in the year ahead. 💚

Today, we conducted our first funeral of the new year. It was a chilly day, but even in the cold, we came together to honour a life and support the family through their loss.

Starting 2026 with this important work, we feel refreshed and ready to be there for families throughout the year ahead. Whatever the weather, whatever the circumstances, our commitment remains the same: to offer compassion, care, and support to those who need it most.

Here’s to another year of helping families remember, celebrate, and find comfort in every moment.

Looking back at this year’s photos has us wondering two things:
1) How did we fit so much into one year?
2) How many cups of coffee have we had?

It’s been a year full of heartfelt moments as we’ve had the honour of looking after so many wonderful families across Derby. We’ve shared in your stories, supported you through loss, and walked alongside you with all the compassion we have. Every family we’ve met has left a mark on us, and we’re grateful for every bit of trust you placed in our hands.

But it’s also been a huge year for us as a team. We’ve grown, achieved more milestones, added new skills, and continued building our place within the community we love. We’ve cheered each other on, tackled busy days together, and somehow managed to keep smiling in between it all.

To the incredible families we’ve cared for, thank you.
To our team and the companies we work alongside with, you’re brilliant.
And to our community, we couldn’t do this without you.

Christmas and the days that follow can be especially hard when you’re grieving. While the world feels busy and joyful, loss can feel heavier during this time. If you’re missing someone today, please know you’re not alone — and there is no right or wrong way to get through the holidays.

Be gentle with yourself in the coming days. Take the moments you need, honour your loved one in whatever way feels right, and remember that support is always available.
