Our Festive Flows are in full swing 🤸‍♀️🎄

Thanks to those who joined me last Saturday for some Christmas calm at THE WORKHOUSE GYM ✨

Our Festive Flows are designed to build strength, improve balance, and give you simple tools to ease stress and anxiety during this busy season – with a few poses to support digestion for those inevitable Christmas overindulgences!

Our Saturday class runs 10-11am at The Workhouse Gym, Castle Donnington. Members can book via the app, and non-members are always welcome too.

Wonderful Christmas night out with the Dalbury Lees yoga crew 🎄✨

Laughing, sharing stories and proving once again what a truly special little community this Tuesday class has become 🫶

It’s an absolute pleasure to teach this group, and a real privilege to bring everyone together - to get to know you all, see you support each other, and watch you show up week after week.

A big thank you to everyone who came, we missed those who couldn’t make it.

And a special shout-out to The Bluebell, Kirk Langley for hosting us – it looked incredibly festive and the staff went above and beyond to look after us. Highly recommend 🙌

Our Tuesday yoga continues on 16th, 23rd and 30th December (6.30pm–7.30pm at Dalbury Lees Community Hall) - plenty of time to get your yoga on this Christmas 🧘‍♀️🎄

✨ HUGE thanks to my lovely NHS regulars who joined me (virtually) from Whitby for last week’s Menopause Yoga class! ✨

One of the perks of teaching online is being able to roll out the mat anywhere (Wi-Fi permitting!) - so while I was away on a little mini-break by the sea, we still managed our usual Thursday morning session.

Although I’ll admit... I had some extra company! 🐾

At home I have a dedicated teaching space, but in the holiday apartment I had two very inquisitive dogs to contend with.

Sparky (my Whippet-Collie whirlwind) was banished to the bedroom, but Hugo, my blind Boston Terrier, won the golden ticket to stay - where he promptly fell asleep and treated us all to a background soundtrack of tractor-level snoring! 😂

Huge thanks to my lovely ladies who took it all in their stride and said it was the most relaxing soundtrack ever 💙

If you work at University Hospitals of Derby and Burton and fancy joining us for a Menopause Yoga session, we’re back to normal this week (no upward- or downward-facing snoring dogs!)

💜 Today is World Menopause Day 💜

Established by the International Menopause Society, this global campaign aims to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and improve the experience of women around the world 🌎

This year’s theme is Lifestyle Medicine - highlighting how nutrition, stress, sleep, and movement can positively impact menopause symptoms and overall wellbeing.

✨ Our Menopause Yoga Programme ✨

Since October 2023, we’ve had the privilege of supporting NHS staff across University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB) through our bespoke Menopause Yoga sessions.

Each class combines:
🧘‍♀️ Gentle, specially adapted yoga sequences
🌿 Mindfulness and breathing techniques
💤 Tools to ease stress, anxiety, overwhelm, fatigue, low mood, and insomnia

These sessions offer practical, movement-based Lifestyle Medicine to help women navigate perimenopause, menopause, and post-menopause with greater ease.

📆Delivered virtually every Thursday morning at 8am, our programme is free to access for all UHDB staff via the Wellbeing Timetable.

We’ve received incredible feedback from participants about how the programme helps them better manage menopause symptoms, and we’re proud to be part of this inspiring network of support for women’s health!

☕💚 Community & Connection through Yoga 🧘‍♀️

One of the things I love most about our Tuesday night Yoga class in Dalbury Lees is the sense of friendship and support that extends beyond the mat.

Yesterday, we came together at a fantastic Macmillan Coffee Morning, kindly hosted by our lovely yoga regular Diana Rose. Several members of the class joined to enjoy coffee, cake, and company - while raising funds for such an important charity.

Special shout-out to Diana’s son, Adrian from Azorieblue who supplied a wonderful selection of artisan coffee, tea and chocolate for the event 👏☕🍫

Occasions like this perfectly show how our yoga classes are more than just the physical practice – they’re about community, connection, and supporting one another.

🙏 Huge thanks to Diana for hosting such a fabulous event. It was great to catch up with everyone and to raise vital funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

🌟 BIG NEWS! 🌟

We're delighted to share that we've been recommissioned for another 12 months to deliver our bespoke Menopause Yoga programme for University Hospitals of Derby and Burton (UHDB)🧘‍♀️

Since October 2023, we've had the privilege of supporting UHDB staff with this specially designed programme, and it’s been incredible to witness the impact it’s having 💙

💫 Free to all UHDB staff, the programme appears weekly on the Trust's extensive Wellbeing Timetable and runs every Thursday morning from 8am–8.30am. It includes:

🧘‍♀️ Bespoke Hatha, Yin & Restorative yoga sequences
🧎‍♀️Mindfulness & breathing techniques

✅ Helping to manage menopause symptoms such as:
🌡️ Hot flushes
😣 Irritability & anxiety
🧠 Low mood & overwhelm
😴 Fatigue & insomnia

To be selected again to deliver this programme for the NHS is a huge honour, and we're incredibly grateful to continue supporting such a vital part of our community ✨

🧘‍♀️ How’s your balance?

On a recent trip to the National Trust Calke Abbey we came across a “Test Your Balance” activity – and of course, we couldn’t resist giving it a go!

Balance is at the heart of every class we teach. Whether we’re breathing to calm the nervous system, moving mindfully through flows, or wobbling (gracefully... or not!) into Tree or Warrior 3 – we’re working on improving our balance.

Why is that important❓

We’re not trying to make perfect, Insta-worthy shapes. We practise balance because it helps:

✨ Improve posture, coordination, and joint strength
✨ Prevent falls and injuries – especially as we age
✨ Strengthen your core, building stability in everyday movement
✨ Build resilience (& humour) as we embrace the wobbles

Balance isn’t about perfection – it’s about showing up, trying again, and learning to embrace the wobbles with a little humour and a lot of kindness.

Improving balance can be challenging, so we always encourage the use of props, walls for support, tapping in and out of poses - and above all, practising kindness to yourself.

So, how’s your balance today?

Support your physical health and mental wellbeing with our inclusive, calming yoga classes.

✨ What to Expect:

You will be guided through a series of poses that build strength, flexibility, and balance — while incorporating mindfulness and breathing techniques to help you relax, de-stress, and re-set.

🧘‍♀️ All levels welcome — we offer modifications to suit your needs.

🔹 Mon – Exertion Fitness, Mickleover | 6:30–7:15pm
🔸 Tues – Dalbury Lees Village Hall | 6:30–7:30pm

From those who join us occasionally, to those who come without fail every week, we’re grateful for your continued support, friendship and incredible feedback 😍

We LOVE what we do and we’re proud to be making a difference, helping to support your physical and mental health and wellbeing and building local communities where people can come together, enjoy a mindful practise, and make new friendships along the way 💙
