This week is learning disability week!

This short film, made in Derby and the Derbyshire countryside, encourages everyone aged 14 and over with a learning disability to book their Annual Health Check.

Starring six local people with learning disabilities, the film answers key questions like:
➡️ What is an Annual Health Check?
➡️ Why is it important?
➡️ How do I get one?

Annual Health Checks help you stay well by spotting health problems early – even if you’re feeling fine! 💬 They’re available FREE at all GP practices in Derbyshire for people aged 14+ on the Learning Disability Register.

💡 Don’t forget: you’re entitled to reasonable adjustments like:
🕒 longer appointments
📄 easy-read documents
✅ support that works best for you

👉 Ask your GP if you’re on the register and let them know if you need any adjustments.

🌡️ Heat-Health Alert Issued for the East Midlands
📅 18–22 June 2025

A Yellow Heat-Health Alert is in place this week, with high temperatures expected across the region. While the likelihood of severe impact is low, the risk to vulnerable people, those aged 65+, people with long-term conditions, and young children, is real.

Here’s how to stay safe in the heat:
✅ Stay hydrated – drink plenty of water
✅ Close curtains and blinds during the hottest part of the day
✅ Open windows at night when it’s cooler
✅ Keep indoor areas below 26°C where possible
✅ Check on vulnerable family, friends, or neighbours
✅ Avoid going out during peak heat (11am–3pm)

If you or someone you care for feels unwell in the heat, especially with dizziness, headaches, or confusion, seek help immediately.

🤝 UTIs: What You Need to Know

Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are common and often not serious, but they can cause uncomfortable symptoms like pain or burning when urinating, cloudy or bloody urine, and tummy or back pain. You may also feel the need to urinate more often, especially at night.

The good news is UTIs usually clear up quickly with the right treatment. Paracetamol, rest, and staying well-hydrated can help ease symptoms. If you think you have a UTI, your local pharmacist can offer advice and treatment, or let you know if you need to speak to a GP.

If you're unsure, don’t wait - reach out and get the support you need💧

📞 Reception teams are here to help – not to be abused

Every day, our reception team takes hundreds of calls - each one with the aim of getting patients the care they need. But sadly, 80% of GP receptionists experience abuse over the phone every single day, often multiple times a day.

We’re supporting the IGPM’s campaign to raise awareness of the emotional toll this takes on our frontline staff.

Abuse is never okay.
