As tall as a Giraffe

Day 4 of our fun animal exercises is walking as tall as a giraffe.

Standing on your tip toes, pretend to be as tall as a giraffe whilst you walk. Great activity for developing gross motor skills in strength and balance.

Remember if you are unsure about the suitability of any exercise then always check with your local physiotherapist before carrying this out.

Penguin Waddle

Day 3 of our fun animal exercises is the Penguin Waddle.

Walk on your heels with your feet turned out and waddle like a penguin. This is a great activity for developing the muscles in your feet and at the front of your lower leg. It also really challenges your balance.

Remember if you are unsure about the suitability of any exercise then always check with your local physiotherapist before carrying this out.

Bear Walks

Day 2 of our fun animal exercises is the Bear Walk.

Bear Walks are another fun gross motor activity which helps work on strength of both the upper and lower body, helps to co-ordinate movement patterns, works on balance and endurance.

Have a go at walking on your hands and feet and walk like a bear.

Remember if you are unsure about the suitability of any exercise then always check with your local physiotherapist before carrying this out.

Paediatric Physiotherapist's will always try to make any physiotherapy programme as fun and exciting as possible for the child/young person they are working with.

This week we will be sharing some animal linked activities that can make programmes a little bit more enjoyable!

Bunny Hops are a fun and encouraging way for children to take part in physical activity.

They are a great lower body exercise to help with strength, balance and co-ordination and endurance.

Stand with your feet together, bend knees slowly (you can even make bunny ears with your hands on your head) then jump both feet in time off the ground. You could do this to music, hop forwards, backwards and to the side.

Remember if you are unsure about the suitability of any exercise then always check with your local physiotherapist before carrying out the exercise.
