Some lovely tips here from Mental Health Foundation for coping with anxiety around lockdown restrictions easing...

💚 Tips for if you're finding the easing of restrictions a little anxiety provoking right now:

🐢Pace yourself – recognise that you need to go at the right pace for you is important.

❌ Try not to let others pressure you into doing things you don’t want to.

🙏Try to encourage yourself to get back into things slow and steady, especially when it comes to reconnecting with friends safely, when rules allow and the time is also right for you.

💬It’s important to discuss concerns with those close to you, but also to allow other people space to move at their own pace.

❓What tips would you give to someone having a tough time right now?

A lovely point from in her fabulous book Beyond Behaviours 🧠

With a background in Sensory Integration I have always been super interested in finding out more about how our sensory systems can impact on the way we engage with our environment and how this can be a reason for some of the behaviours we see 🤓

A question I always hold in mind ‘what is the behaviour communicating?’ 🧐

Spending time in 1:1 sessions this week focusing on noticing the body and being curious about naming the physical sensations ✋🏻 👀

Some of the language we have been sharing together has been lovely 😊

“My tummy gets fizzy when I get out of the car to go into school”
“My legs shake and get heavy when I go out on my own”
“My face gets hot, hands are sweaty”
“ I get foggy and my chest is light”

Well it’s been a busy week or so engaging in more Youth Mental Health First Aid training 😊 busy but brilliant!

We all have mental health and, just like our physical health, it needs looking after.

As an approved Youth Mental Health First Aider I’m ready to continue being part of the community working together to make a positive change to conversations around mental health 😊

HUG SOMEONE TODAY: FOUR HEALTH BENEFITS OF HUGS

We hug others when we’re excited, happy, sad, or trying to comfort. Hugging, it seems, is universally comforting.

It makes us feel good And it turns out that hugging is proven to make us healthier and happier.

According to scientists, the benefits of hugging go beyond that warm feeling you get when you hold someone in your arms.

When a friend or family member is dealing with something painful or unpleasant in their lives, give them a hug.

Scientists say that giving another person support through touch can reduce the stress of the person being comforted.

Family therapist Virginia Satir once said, “We need four hugs a day for survival, 8 hugs a day for maintenance and 12 hugs a day for growth.”

While that may sound like a lot of hugs, it seems that many hugs are better than not enough.

Unfortunately, people in western society are touch-deprived and many people live solitary or busy lives with reduced social interaction and touching.
