Karen was told her mole was nothing to worry about. A year later, it was melanoma.
That's why we're sharing her story, to help raise awareness about the importance of trusting your instincts and checking your skin regularly. 🫶🏼
Karen had a noticeably dark mole on her arm, which she initially showed her GP and was reassured it was fine and nothing to be concerned about. When Cheryl saw it, she expressed concern and advised her to get it removed, but understandably, she didn't feel it was necessary after the GP's reassurance.
Almost a year later, she returned to her GP practice for something unrelated and saw a different doctor. This time, the mole was immediately flagged as suspicious, and she was sent for a biopsy. It came back as malignant melanoma.
Thankfully, it hadn't spread and could be surgically removed. Karen was incredibly lucky - but her experience is a reminder that skin cancer doesn't always look scary, and not all moles are harmless. She also had a history of frequent sun exposure, sunburns, and rarely used SPF - all of which can increase the risk.
☀️ Please use SPF daily. Check your skin. If something doesn't feel right, get a second opinion.
