Today, on World Stroke Day, we join people around the world in raising awareness of stroke prevention, support, and recovery.

A stroke can happen to anyone, at any age — but recognizing the signs early can save lives. Remember the F.A.S.T. test:

F – Face: Has it fallen on one side?
A – Arms: Can they raise both arms?
S – Speech: Is it slurred?
T – Time: Call 999 immediately.

At Marc Stephens Funeral Service, we take this day to remember those whose lives have been touched by stroke, and to encourage everyone to learn the signs and support ongoing awareness.

At Marc Stephens Funeral Services, we’re often asked why the funeral director walks in front of the hearse.
It’s a long-standing tradition that holds deep meaning.

Walking in front of the hearse is a mark of respect — a symbolic way of leading your loved one on their final journey. It dates back to the days of horse-drawn carriages, when the undertaker would guide the horses and set the pace for the procession.

Today, we continue this gesture as a sign of dignity, care, and honour for the person who has passed. Even though it’s only for a short distance, it represents our commitment to ensuring every farewell is carried out with grace and respect.
