Last week truly reminded us that every life, no matter the age, deserves to be honoured in a way that reflects who they were.

From a young 28 year old gentleman, taken far too soon, whose love for pool was a big part of his life shown by a incredible floral tribute, thank you Sweetpeas Florist - Burton on Trent, Swadlincote & surrounding areas, to a 50 year old dad, laid to rest in the warmth and sunshine at Nottingham Road Cemetery and finally, to an 85 year old surrounded by her loving family at Trent Valley Crematorium

Different lives, different stories, different goodbyes but each one handled with the same care, respect and dedication they deserve.

It is an honour to walk alongside every family and help create a farewell that is as unique as the life lived

Mother’s Day can be a beautiful day of celebration, but for many families it can also be one of the hardest. As a funeral director, we see both sides of this day. The love, the memories, and sometimes the quiet moments of missing someone who meant the world.

Today we think of all the wonderful mums who are no longer with us but whose love still surrounds their families every single day. Whether you’re placing flowers, sharing stories around the table, or simply taking a quiet moment to reflect, those memories are a testament to just how special a mother’s love truly is.

To all the mums, grandmothers, step-mums and mother figures. Thank you for the love, guidance and warmth you bring to our lives.

And to those who find today a little difficult, please know you are not alone. From all of us, we are thinking of you today.

Today is a perfect reminder that when we say the funeral profession isn’t a 9–5 job, we truly mean it. It’s 24/7, because families need support at all times, not just during the working week.

When a family asks to come in on a Saturday, the answer will always be of course you can. Being there when people need us most is simply part of what we do.

Walking into the office this bright sunny morning and finding two thank you cards waiting for us was incredibly touching. Little moments like this remind us that the care, time and compassion we give truly mean something.

At Fellows Funeral Directors, we know that comfort can come in many forms. Sometimes it’s a warm drink, sometimes it’s a kind word… and sometimes it’s a wagging tail. 🐾

Poppy and Mabel, our two little four-legged friends, have a wonderful way of helping families feel at ease during what can be a very difficult time. Their gentle presence often brings a smile, a moment of calm, and a little bit of comfort when it’s needed most.

We also understand that pets are part of the family too. If bringing your own beloved companion along to an arrangement would help make things a little easier, they are always welcome.

And of course, we like to keep a few little treats on hand for both our human visitors and their furry friends.

On International Women’s Day, we take a moment to recognise and celebrate the incredible women who shape our lives and our communities every single day.

In my line of work, I am privileged to meet some truly remarkable women. Loving mums, devoted wives, caring daughters, proud grandmothers, and strong friends, each with their own story, strength, and legacy.

I also want to recognise the wonderful women who stand beside families during some of life’s most difficult moments, offering kindness, compassion and support when it is needed most.

It is all about honouring the strength, love and resilience of women everywhere. Thank you for everything you do, seen and unseen.

In the beautiful sunshine yesterday, I had the honour of caring for my cousin on his final journey, taken from us far too soon.

From memories of us sitting together at Christmas dinner when we were younger, to now having the privilege of arranging your farewell, it is something that fills me with both pride and deep sadness. To be able to look after you in this way is an honour I will always carry with me.

Lee, I hope you’re up there with a fishing rod in hand, enjoying the peaceful waters. Please give our family a hug from us all.

Until we meet again. 🎣☀️

As the sun began to rise this morning, Matt and the team at Fellows Funeral Directors were already beginning the day with quiet purpose and care.

Today, we brought a much-loved mum into our care. There is something very humbling about those early morning journeys, when the world is still and peaceful, knowing a family is placing their trust in us at one of the hardest times of their lives.

In our profession, doing the little things can make a family feel that bit more comfortable, supported and understood during the hardest of days. Making every service personal and unique isn’t just important to us, it’s everything.

Last week, that meant honouring a true Coventry City supporter with a Coventry City scarf and a sky blue tie, worn with pride in memory of a loving husband, dad, grandad – aka “Grumpy” and a very special great grandad.

Thank you for allowing us to walk alongside you and for trusting us to be part of such a special farewell. It is always a privilege we never take for granted. 🩵

To walk out of my office and have the honour of carrying a loving husband and devoted dad on his final journey fills me with immense pride and humility. To be entrusted with such a precious moment in a family’s life is something I will never take for granted.

And then, as if perfectly timed, the sun made a gentle appearance just as the concluding music began “The Sun Has Got His Hat On.” It felt like a quiet, beautiful reminder of warmth, love and a life well lived.

Thank you, as always, to all of my wonderful families for placing your trust in us and allowing us to walk alongside you. It is truly a privilege to care for you and your loved ones.

The article below may be upsetting.

The funeral industry exists to care for families at their most vulnerable moments and that responsibility should come with strong, meaningful regulation. No family should ever have to question whether their loved one was treated with dignity and respect.

I’m proud to say we are SAIF independent funeral directors inspected and calling for accountability and higher standards across the industry. Transparency, oversight, and compassion are not optional, they are essential.

My thoughts are with all the families affected.

Richard Elkin and Hayley Bell were found to have kept bodies in unrefrigerated conditions.
